everyone mostly suggests stuff that has been already done in Fire Emblem, we are completely, creatively bankrupt in this thread, not that I am any better. For starters:

Completely new artist who has never worked in Fire Emblem before (I tihnk CHOCO who worked on Xenoblade before would be interesting to see)

If impossible to have competent writing, make it straightforward, no filler inbetween is important

timeskips will be over the course of the game if they exist, there wont be child units

relative to gameplay:

the map design should be part of the gameplay, you can sabotage forts if no one stands on them to destroy reinforcements, you can set forests on fire with torches or Fire tomes (the amount of tiles is dependant on the strength of the tome, torches only 1 tile), possibly even map gimmicks at times

CANTO IS NO MORE

more support classes beyond staff like Qi Adept make a return and get improved upon, a new class dedicated purely to empowerment of other units that functionally works like rallies

no more weapon skills/special moves as they trivialize your hit rate odds on most occasions and make it so the game has to be balanced on HP bloat

more class restrictions, but also 1 more class per each compared to what Fates has (as in, 3 classes you can pick from and 6 promos per character)

no more turnwheel, too easy of an excuse of a gimmick to excuse game balance

I probably have more things but this would suffice

I like the idea of tomes having dot effects but there would inherently be an issue with this concept, for one for this to be useful the enemy unit couldnt be in range of your mage, which it will, meaning your mage is in danger which naturally will favor magetanks, a problem with Fates, for two they are just gonna die in the enemy phase when attacking you anyway, so the dot effects are kinda pointless in the long run, hence my suggestion of affecting the map itself, that way terrain in general will play a role against enemies and perhaps even against the player. I like your idea of the Fire Emblem being a magic conduit.

I think it cheapens the punishment the player should take for failing his units. Instead of weightening whether or not to keep going without the unit that died or resetting, they can just rewind and make it so nothing happened. Its cheap.

You're right. I didn't think about it hard enough, but I do want tomes to be more than just: damage, but targets enemy res. I want to feel scared of enemy spellcasters, maybe...give them spells? Stuns as a free action? Damage as a free action? Fear that makes enemies run away, stat debuffs like Draconic Hex? Just spitballing.

I will admit ironmanning makes playthroughs very very different to me, only taking the lowest risks and cherishing every hit that shouldve missed or vice versa but the average player really needs it, no one wants to be stuck resetting after one mistake. Leave it up to the player to do challenge runs.

gaiden growths are low and promotion mitigates their impact, but your units can get rather overpowered after a couple levels with the angel ring

There's something interesting I learned when interacting with the JP side of the fanbase, apparently a lot of Japanese dont like Kozaki as a Fire Emblem artist, their reason being that he is too "Western" or rather too grounded, they feel that it is too further away from Kaga's original vision, who was more influenced by colors as distinct traits for characters

There was this thing that bothered me a lot with Awakening's portraits where they all had that "red nose" syndrome that tumblr loved a lot. Now that I have a bit more knowledge in painting I can see why someone aiming for realism would do it, but at the time it was a turn off for me. Personally I prefer if we can find a balance, id rather have a lot of color to my characters rather than neuter them for the sake of realism
