It's funny. If you stick rigidly to the game itself there's a lot of tf2 characters who could just give a blank stare to. Even knowing who Pauling is requires you to give one iota of a fuck about the contracts. Saxton Hale being in the game took VSH becoming an official game mode to happen and I wouldn't blame anyone for not caring to play it.

Saxton's all over a lot of failed mechanics like the trade-up system for items but I do agree he's largely constrained to tertiary media for TF2

It never officially happened, Jay Pinkerton hinted at it once and got promptly swallowed into the depths of Shut The Fuck Up by Erik Wolpaw and I think Pauling's VA said something to the effect once. It's in a dubious space of "headcanon on the writers' part" where it will never ever be brought up in any capacity or hard confirmed by anyone because it's dumb fetishism or pandering on the writers' part. Erik Wolpaw especially will be quick to shut it down because it doesn't accomplish anything but get in the way of the work, same as he was apparently very vocal about getting the other writers to FUCK OFF with giving the Administrator a deep backstory because it was boring and unnecessary.

Jay Pinkerton said it at one point and seemed to have completely forgotten they had done an entire short about Scout trying to date her.

Loads of people rule it off because because Pauling/Scout was what was being pointed at by TF2 itself. So when the final issue of the comics, that just so happen are written by Jay Pinkerton, came out and pointedly severed Pauling and Scout as a pairing it's easy to come to the conclusion he was trying to push his Pauling is gay take.

It was only hinted at by her never being interested in scout, by ignoring the naked mercs but when zana gets naked she wants to stay and stare instead of going somewhere "less naked" as scout put it, by her obsession to the administrator and by the last thing he tells to scout about how there's women hotter than her. To be fair you have to have a high IQ to understand TF2
