Fun God game, fun city building, and tickles my autism by having a giant creature to raise and evolve. The only downsides are that it's too short and too easy.
I know Lionhead shut down, but the only game I would pay 80 bucks for would be Black & White 3
Black & White was such a good fvcking franchise

it was revolutionary indeed. good old times

damn
So do us a favah and us find somethin' wit ah little flavah.
I can't remember if that's accurate or not, but this song has been stuck in my head for way too many years.
Does anyone even still make godgames like at all? People loved them and there's 0 supply for this. Whatever studio has the courage to make a good spiritual successor to this is probably gonna make a lot of money.
It's kind of like how no game ever tried to go as far as Spore did. There's a lot of smaller games that are similar, but nothing at that level.
i do wonder on whos IP graveyard this franchise is getting mold and what it would take to bring it back
WorldBox
OOOOOHHH
WE'VE
GOT
THIS
NOTION
ok you guys sold me on this for a weekend playthrough.
is there someplace to buy it or should I just torrent?
iirc the rights are split between EA and Microsoft. As far as old games go, one owns the code and the other owns the publishing rights. Or something like that.
WorldBox
no faction affiliation
no range of influence
no progression
no interactive building
no morality system
is basically just an interactive screensaver
Uh huh. Right.
B&W2 was good, 1 was dogshit.
B&W2
Every child who played that game made a joke about beating their monkey.
Apparently there is some legal issue between microshart and EA which is why they can't be published on gog for example.
Both were good.
For BW2 you can just download it on myabandonedware and run it as an iso
Keep in mind that you need the 1.1,1.2 and 1.4 patches too, so it runs on Windows ten. But you just extract them into the game folder, and it works
I only ever played 2 cause that came out when I was little, and working your way backwards on releases always feels a bit iffy. Playing 2 and then 1 feels like eating desert first and then dinner
ding ding ding
Microsoft owns the IP and EA owns the publishing rights.
thx anon
Fata Deum on steam looks heavily inspired by the B&W games but its release date keeps getting moved back
From Dust is a game that is vaguely similar to the genre of BW2 that is pretty good for it's time.
It really shines if you love to terraform without needing to bother with other systems.
whenever I think about a citizen yelling
WE NEED TO BREED
I imagine I zoom in and see a tiny little chud in between my villagers
Still tickles me that the guy who was the lead AI programmer for Black and White went on to become a nobel prize winner. I feel it's a bit hard for other game devs to follow on from that.
don't ask for video games, you know they are just going to ruin them
there are no good modern games
That guy is a bonafide genius. Molyneux choose him as a lead programmer since he was 17.
Genesis of a small god. It's not really the same and is janky as fuck but it can be fun for awhile.
I always get to island 4 or 5 and get bored and stop playing
I have been repeating this every 6-10 years
Black & White was such a good fvcking franchise Anonymous
I barely played the sequel so I am mostly going off of the first game. Yeah the first game was incredibly unique, fun and addictive. It would be great to see it brought back for a remaster with some qol improvements. Too damn bad its under the shitty hands of EA iirc. This might actually even be my favorite PC exclusive game ever.
It seriously sucks how this genre is just slept on when it has so much potential to be something even greater.
That always bothered me
The first 3 or so islands are all just the tutorial.
Also, sometimes I'm just minding my business and having fun expanding my little town, and suddenly I win by impressiveness when I just wanted to build a tavern for my lil' guys
It's still crazy to me that this game got fully localized to swedish, including this song
you have the same ammount of things if you ask your population to pray or to work.
BW2 helped me learn a lot about society as a kid
make armies
keep sending them out
fertility and population crashes 20 minutes later
Helped me realize that all my men died at war, and the only grown men to impregnate women that were left, were the ones that were kids when I drafted my armies and had grown up since. Eventually my population was 80% elderly women who couldn't work, and the kids working the fields couldn't produce enough grain to feed everyone. So I grabbed all the hags burnt them at the altar to save my town from starvation, and my population went from like 400 to 30 people.
As a little 10 year old kid that level of complexity in a videogame blew my mind
Does anyone even still make godgames like at all?
I'm currently in the process of making a spiritual successor to populous, but I suck at coding and can't get the mesh deformation to work properly. It will probably not come out for another 1-2 years.
THA SHAMAN
hope it works out for you anon
bw3 with actual vr compatibility and two god hands would be absolute kino
BW1 > BW2 btw, this franchise did not need RTS elements.
Is there a good way of playing this in 2025? Is there an open source copy etc?
must have homes...
you need to hunt down the ISOs and install them, then find a few patches to get it to run. There are a few guides still floating around if you search enough, I last got most of it from here bwgame.net
see
we need homes!
we need sleep!
we need to breed!
truly predicted America in 2025
nah the RTS elements were a step in the right direction, but they were so horribly implemented that it fucked it up completely.
Did any of you ever figure out armies?
I never managed to level up my armies. Platoon of maybe 300 people, and by the time they were rank 3, maybe 20 soldiers are left, even when I spam healing wonders. I never figured out how to level them up right.
oh thats easy you just
do one of the quests that gives you elite armies as a response, kill one of them and then hoover up as many men as you need, click and hold to reinforce them past their limit
but armies are just broken in the game, they only serve as a resource sink to distract you
Reus?
god game
look inside
city builder with some powers
where are games that really lean into the GOD aspect?
