All the weapons do decent amounts of damage from the 30 minutes I've played of it so far, but if you only use your firearm you'll run dry of ammo and be forced to resort to using your melee, since there's no ammo restock and the default pistol only has a finite amount of ammo. There's metaprogression if you play on normal or easy, but you can also disable that shit if you play on expert, so that's nice. I also like how cutely stupid the android lolis attacking you are, especially when some of the bosses are just a group of them fucking around with a squad car and doing drive-bys.

Overall, one of the better stick shooter roguelites I've played. Would recommend solely because it has cunny.

They should revamp the melee class or whatever and give them all a ranged attack but melee focused skills or something, I don't know. But yes, punch good.

No game comes close to one in terms of how likable and endearing the main squad are and in a game that's as personal in those character's very life and death as Valkyria Chronicles is caring about the characters is absolutely mandatory. 4 I think absolutely by FAR has the worst cast of characters which is infinitely more unforgivable a sin than the retarded story. I could put up with the retarded story if the characters were likable but they just aren't. Yes, Riley, as another ten year old kid, felt that her best friend did nothing to help as her family died. Reasonable at the time because kids are fucking stupid, unreasonable to hold onto that for so long. Minerva is upset at herself and takes it out on Claude, which is consistent with how she's been the entire time. She was always competitive and upset that he was better than her and having all her friends except the tank driver killed while Claude and his squad are perfectly fine broke her. It was "why did this happen to us, why did you get through it unaffected" rather than "this is all your fault" if I remember it right.
Kai facing no formal consequences is a giant problem with the story and that part I will agree with.
While the main cast has a lot of problems I greatly enjoyed the imperials and their own complexities. All the Klaus and Crymaria interactions are great, Nikola and Chiara being arrogant sadistic shits to quaking in fear after their recalibration and ending with Nikola killing Heinrich was a good plotline. The squad stories fleshing out the rest of the team was great, there are a ton of fun characters in the rest of the squad. I feel the cast as a whole is enjoyable even with the main protagonists falling short.

Focus your upgrade points on grenades since upgrading a base item also upgrades the damage of the items it's used to craft. Upgrading those 2nd tier items themselves just gives them extra effects like stun on trip mines. Generally you gotta play like the viet-cong, doing quick strike-and-fade using woods as cover, leaving traps and turrets for when they chase you.

How is it an overreaction? The point is these are the only impressions of these characters we get so they're all insanely unlikable. If it was just one or two character it would be one thing but it's like every single one was written with the express intent of being insufferable.

Mortars ruined the pacing of the gameplay, made lancers superfluous and even more worthless than they already were in 1, and were a huge downgrade from the melee classes in 3. Yeah, they were super useful from a utility standpoint, but they weren't exactly FUN to use.

Its a game with a lot of vertical movement and where having good aim isnt that much of a necessity because TTK is very very high, coupled with shields and big HP bars and gimmicks from specific characters that make you take less damage or give you more movement, alongside most single shot weapons being bad and all the full auto ones being good, it makes it easier for Japs to get into because they focus more on looting and moving because they know how to learn to do those things from other games, than shooting.
Its also free and has lootboxes and shit which Japs also like.
