Timing wise I think re-releasing vanilla fresh works when you do it at the end of wrath and start the cycle again. Vanilla has some real cultists but they dont make up enough subs to warrant having an annual fresh server made on top of the 4 they already have

You need to rebrand "wow classic" in your brain for anything after wrath to make sense.
I mean I enjoyed wrath raiding and cata raiding but cata's levelling is already fucking atrocious and I can no longer say the game feels "classic", the destruction/re-making of azeroth and big cities like orgrimmar, plus flying, talent rework, etc. absolutely means "wow is no longer what it used to be".
Just think of it as "wow re-run".
Personally I'll play until Legion and then quit right after, hopefully won't get desire to ever play WoW ever again, unless the raid design in wod/legion will make me go "shit, what if bfa/sl raids rule too?"

Cata saw a huge drop in players but I think they know people will come back for MoP and Legion, which are still considered the peaks of modern WoW. And if you’re doing that you might as well do Cata too. It’s not like it’s a huge investment for them anyway.

It isn't even the fact that everyone started making open-world games that annoys me. It's that everyone started making navigation and path finding retard proof. So the "open-world" just turns into running to the floating UI marker or having to constantly open the map to find shit because nothing is properly sign-posted. In regards to MMOs, I despise the shift towards all these forced main story and cutscene shit in lieu of levelling by actually playing the game with others.

Should I play it? Only played briefly Classic during TBC and skipped Wotlk and Cata, but MoP seems fun. I don't really know what state the Classic community is in though.

I’d argue that Legion was the transitional expansion from old modern to current modern, the same way Wrath was transitional from classic to old modern.
It’s just that Legion had an expansion and a half’s worth of development and executed the ideas so well that most really liked it, especially after the problems of WoD.

WoD is going to be expedited I think. They know they can’t force people onto it for over a year and not expect it to just outright die.

Pick warrior, make am acro to switch to a one handed and shield as needed
tab target mobs and just use sunder armor once on each mob
skull over the first one to die, then pick that one to use the 4 sunder one
so sunder that first, two random mobs, then sunder it again if it's alive

Later on go full prot and pick shield slam and replace sunder with it

it does get it's dick sucked so hard that I've always figured it couldnt be full on modern especially as people who could give a shit less about wow know that bfa was a hot dumpster fire. me and my buddy are gonna push all the way up to it as there does not look like there will be another worth a shit mmo to scratch this itch on. It's been a fun and interesting experience, being able to pull random memories from back in the day out of my ass to get something done and from cata on it will be all new to us both.

I've never really heard a lot of positive about this place but nothing ever really negative either, what's so bad about it?

Problem being the Worlo split between retail and classic seemingly has no developmental staff between them and certainly nobody taking notes on retail's side
But Actiblizz has so much government and megacorp suits in its top branch to basically launder money (including Ion given his legal background for the US gov't) there's no actual real incentive for the game to get better or even just focus on what the fuck it is and what it wants to do; putting Ion in charge again in particular pretty much torpedoed any kind of new identity it could carve out for itself

most content had a chance to give you a legendary based on its difficulty. Usually you would get your first legendary with in a day or two of hitting cap. Your second would probably be the smae week, you might see a third that month. Every time you got a legendary you would lower the chances of the next drop.
There are 8-9 legends for your class, another one for your armor class and then 6-7 that everyone can get.
There are only 2-3 you actually want and you dont get to pick the order you get the leggos in. For example if you though you were playing a rogue and you didnt get zoldyks shackles in your first couple drops then it sucks to suck but that item is 25% of your damage and you are trolling your raid group with that stupid amulet that gives you a free priest bubble every minute
