First it was blocking

First it was blocking

Then dodging

Now the most popular gameplay mechanic is parrying

What is the next step?

we're going back to cover shooters

hey at least its actual gameplay instead QTEs and unskippable cutscenes
westoid garbage is still bad on average though

parrying is literally an unprompted QTE

so literally not a QTE

There has to be a game out there that mixes tanking with some sort of life steal mechanic that could make it work.

I hope we revert to destroying things soon

actual dynamic dodging rather than i-frame bullshit. backing off, running into a blind spot, moving in closer etc
that takes a lot more game design effort though

Jumping on enemies.

Cover shooters

They literally do that

Anon Babble still shits on them

there ain't winning with y'all

Space Marine 1
truly one of the most unique action games that's a joy to play

why is it so common for Anon Babbletards to hate on defensive options in melee action games?
its such an autistic thing to obsess over imo

Return to slow and deliberate chunky combat in narrow corridors, please.

I yearn for the good old days.

uninstalling

I would like to see a game with actual dynamic dodging instead of i-frame BS. It could be something like backing away, moving into blind spots, running closer, and other things like that. It would take a lot more effort put into game design, however.

That thing when two swords clash and they struggle and sparks fly because they're trying to push against the other? I want to do that in videogames.

Also blunt weapons actually colliding and slamming on enemies instead of clipping through them like a bladed weapon.

monster hunter world

For Honor has that but the weird rock paper scissors combat was a mixed bag for people.

Funny how this used to be big deal back in late 2000s/early 2010s with the release of havok physics. A lot of games suddenly had destructible doodads and environments.

Mordhau has weapon chambering, if I swing right and you swing right and the swords hit it actually feels fucking good

Destroying a classic character design doesn't count as good.

literally elden ring

Fatty vs Lance with Health Augment is pretty good summation of this sort of fight, it's so fucking good

Someone came up with the terms rollslop and parryslop to shit on Fromsoft and 95% of the retards here who parrot those terms think that those specific actions are the reason why the combat in Fromsoft games is so shallow.

The next mist logical step is for games to try to copy boosting

That's basically where from came up with rolling. Souls is a mecha series at heart.

Guilty Gear has that and when it happens both players can instantly cancel into any move they want, it's cool as fuck

There has to be a game out there that mixes tanking with some sort of life steal mechanic that could make it work.

The entire premise of Ultrakill

That's basically where from came up with rolling

Rolling has been standard in action games since forever. I can't believe there's people on this board that unironically think From invented any of this shit.

Yeah, I'm thinking from invented rolling. You must be thinking of tumbling or something.

FromSoft introduced a generation of mindless RPG players to action games by giving them an "action game" where they can crutch through by buildmongering broken bullshit. It's why the DaS fanbase hates Sekiro so much, even though it's the best thing From has ever done, because the only way to be good at it is to be good at it, you can't build a +200 critbleed lifesuck poiserape build that lets you stunlock everything to death passively or whatever the fuck people are doing in DaS that isn't just "hit the thing until it dies".

As though level 1 naked runs aren't the hottest shit among souls fans.

I mean, if you play a melee build in Path of Exile you're likely doing just that. Being said, takes a lot of work and good gear to facetank things you should be moving out of the way for.

It's the one that gets the most views but a vast majority of them don't actually try it. Same shit with people beating souls games with gimmick set ups like playing with a dance pad or playing it while blind folded.

I did it so loads of them probably did.

this but with kamehamehas

They're usually not options. If you put dodging or parrying in the game and you can survive everything for free then investing in defences that aren't free makes you a loser. You don't play these games to feel like a loser so you have play the shitty parry everything game.

have you retards played moba?
oh yeah v bad at real game

from the sound of your post you just want the game to remove the action part
the free defenses take skill and reaction time
if we remove the free defenses wouldn't it just be pure stats and the game becomes just another boring JRPG?

That thing when two swords clash and they struggle and sparks fly because they're trying to push against the other? I want to do that in videogames.

Well, sparks don't fly, but in actual sword fighting it's called a bind. When blades encounter each other on edge they do actually tend to catch on each other and without changing the orientation of a blade it is difficult to slide along another blade. Usually there's no real "battle" to overpower the other person though, invariably one person's strong is on the other persons weak, and since they have more leverage they're able to either bat the other persons weapon away, or they just switch to the other side of the attack.

dodg rolling ing is not the only skill in the world

talking

Jumping

Jelking

we're talking about video games retard

real life is always more interesting than video games.

Isn't that what Steve Jobs died of?
