Why are english dubs in gaming so accepted compared to anime?

the exact same fans

no they're not

Absolutely disgusting. Not the same fans at all.

It's only ok if the actors don't try to pretend that it's an anime. In those games though, 100% japanese dub.

I played BOTW and TOTK with Japanese voices.
Games just don't offer the choice most of the time.

I fucking hate ingles Zelda in totk. There is a time and place for briish women, but that wasn't it.
Also, I really doubt people who watch anime with subs tolerate dub in vidya. I know I don't.

dub shir gets the rope in any medium

ingles

hueheuheuhue macaco chan where's the sopa let's play soccer my amigo

They're probably accepted in the anime that makes money. Which is like... One Piece and maybe that Demon Slayer show nowadays.

the people who play jrpgs with english dubs also watch anime with english dubs

Panty & Stocking is definitely one of the few instances where the dub is infinitely superior to the original

I don't think this is true at all.

I actually don't agree with that picture. I think video game fans tend to be more open to dubs, and anime fans are more restrictive on them. Due to the fact that for a very long time, and is still happening today, the dubbed version is often times the ONLY version available to a large majority of gamers, and only extremely autistic anime nerds go out of their way for modding and undub patches. 99.9999% of the rest just use the regular dub.

This results in people conditioning their expectations of voice work. In Japan, thanks to loli culture, a lot of the female actors will put on a falsetto voice to sound cutsey, whereas women in dub tend to either use a more natural voice or a deeper voice to portray those characters. This results in a divide between the two where anime fans, used to hearing high-pitched squeaking, will hear every dub voice as manish and old. On the other hand, video game and dub fans used to a manish and older sounding voices will hear every sub voice as high-pitched squeaking for pedos.

Whichever side you're on, watch 2 seasons of something in the opposite manner to untrain your ears, then flip-flop. It opens up doors. Some dubs are genuinely better than some subs and vice versa.

game dubs are still shit i just find it hard to read the subtitles on the constant background chatter during gameplay whilst also trying to focus on playing.
IQ issue i suppose

If given the option in a game I put on Japanese voices and English subtitles.

The people bellow don't watch anime.
The people that watch anime play their games subbed.

manish and older sounding voices will hear every sub voice as high-pitched squeaking for pedos

Wouldn't be a problem if these characters weren't supposed to be 14 year old japanese girls and not lesbian cat lady chainsmokers.

Anime dubs are made on the cheap and have less effort. Game dubs sometimes have input and direction from Japanese staff like Persona 5 did.

i love and only listen to dubs. truly my only issue with dubs is some anime don't have the Japanese soundtracks
goku shouldn't sound like a 90 year old grandma

Because trying to play a game and also read subtitles to understand what is happening is much harder than watching a show with subtitles.
If it was just cutscenes then it would be fine but having to read dialogue whilst also fighting enemies or platforming is too distracting.
I tried Plague Tale in French for 5 minutes and gave up because I had to stop what I was doing every time someone spoke so I could read.

My personal problem with that logic is I've watched a ton of Japanese interviews and live-action shows, and even 14 year old Japanese women do NOT sound like anime 14 year olds. They sound closer to what a typical 20 year-old sounds like, which makes sense because most women finish developing around 14-17. The idea that a 14 year-old anime girl needs to sound like a 6 year old is actually really unrealistic and results from a poisoned sub-only mind.

I get a choice?
I had to jump through several hoops to get borderlands 2 to use japanese VA without changing all the text.

Used to be because video games had region locking and didn't have any ability to add subtitles even if you modded your console to play imported or pirated Japanese releases so there literally was no other alternative for western fans.

Why are you playing an american game with japanese voices?

english dubs are one of the worst in the medium, poor americans

cause its an american game, have you heard borderlands 2 dialogue? its slightly better than borderlands 3 dialogue.

If you can spend 300 hours grinding in a brainless RPG then you can spend 300 hours grinding out a basic knowledge of Japanese. The target listening and reading level for these products is that of a school child, you're not exactly learning how to read War and Peace here.

English simply naturally requires speaking in a lower register. Your hypothesis about child sex being relevant to this is bullshit. Most other languages in the world are spoken in a higher register than English.

english dubs in gaming so accepted

They're not.

They still absolutely don't sound at all like 40 year old white women speaking english.

It's easy to read a subtitle while paying attention to a video at the same time, but games may require more attention to other parts of the screen so reading subtitles while playing can be a pain. Also some games have shitty subtitles and don't translate things like dialogue or chatter during combat.

Exactly, imagine hearing an american accent in a game like The Witcher or Kingdom Come. Makes you want to spew.

Voice acting in games is mostly irrelevant, you could cut it out entirely without losing anything of value. That's not the case for anime.

im the exact person in op image. I like dubs in vidya usually so I hear all of the dialogue while playing. there are exceptions though, Yakuza never should've got an English dub, I play trails in nip even though the English dub is fine, and a few others
as for anime the only dubs I like are watanabekino and when I'm tripping on acid or doing ketamine and can't into subtitles

sometimes the background shit doesn't even have subtitles, so dub it is

Your hypothesis about child sex being relevant to this is bullshit.

Except it is. Reference this: 14-30 year-old Japanese women do not sound like 6 year-old Japanese women, but a high majority of anime characters put on a false higher octave to reach that range. It just simply is.

Gerald has an american accent

it had nothing to do with the women for most of us, anon.
the english dubs have traditionally just been THAT shit for too many things.
subbed got more interesting as fan translators made the effort to explain japanese idioms and wordplay.
and then faggot localizers began INTENTIONALLY fucking up translations.

ree didn't mean to post twice

sounding cutesy has nothing to do whatever tranny cope you VA's are coming up with to try and justify getting replaced with british VAs.

its a lot harder to ignore how cringe anime is when you hear it in your native tongue.

more normalfags

1. The voice acting tends to be better
2. I'm used to it
3. It's harder to read subtitles when you also need to focus on playing the game

Can somebody post that thing from that Japanese imageboard where they're complaining about when Sony took over from Square-Enix for publishing Call of Duty and didn't include the English audio?
Or the one where they're talking about "American anime" and arguing about watching Spongebob or South Park in Japanese or English.

It's honestly hilarious that whether in English or Japanese these frivolous arguments are always happening.

In anime, since all you do is watch, it's easier to read the subs.

2/3 of those are fair points, but the voice acting is objectively not better

Nowadays you have a lot of options to choose from,. But a long time ago, if you wanted to watch an anime you could only watch it subbed, and if you wanted to play a japanese videogame, most of the time they came dubbed.
And before someone talks about using some japanese dub patch or something like, those didn't exist at realese you fucking secondaries.

what kind of heathen plays games with the english dub that weren't originally in english. The voice acting is almost always worse in english

ok but the pumpkin goombas and dinosaur island goombas are definitely goombas and to say otherwise is revisionism

The voice acting is almost always worse in english

How do you know? You don't speak Japanese.

weebshit

nobody cares, freak.

intended language > any other dub
normalise experiencing media in the same way the creators visioned them during creation
no dubtitles, no spicing up the translation either

6 year-olds aren't cute, anon.

nigger reaction images on the right

I know what you are

Always original dub. Subs of your native language on top of that.
Like that is 100% normal. Of course if you are a child or were a trouble child in school that never learned to read properly then I guess you should use dubs. I just recommend learning to read.

dubs will always be better no matter what, Japanese sounds horrible and the niggers have literally no range. it's like they reuse the same 2 va for both male and female, plus they sound like robots anyway
