what is soul
What is soul
Just like real souls, it's unquantifiable, but you know if when you see it.
Free soul is too tame for me
i've never liked spyro
It's hard to explain
a buzzword for low quality posters too inarticulate to describe what they like about something; usually comes from an utter lack of artistic, musical, and technical skill and knowledge. the word drags down the level of discussion to dull and useless "vibes" talk.
It means you played it when you were 9 and liked it because you had no taste
Shrek is a movie full of soul
just gonna leave this one here
baby don't hurt me
This is soul
When the devs go the extra mile and you can tell they cared.
Soul is defying the constraints of the body (hardware) to create something that is bigger than it’s limitations.
I was gooning on Youtube last night to those naked cleaning tutorials, and one of the vids hit me with giga soul feels cause it had some random copyright free music.
youtube.com
Hit me with nostalgic feels cause it sounds like a Spyro song, ended my goonsesh, and made me think of better things. That might be soul, bros.
Note that soul is not inherently tied to quality or polish of games, though there is a strong correlation. A great number of games you would describe as possessing the trait are broken as fuck in various ways.
Indeed. Crash Twinsanity is a good example. It's very soulful, yet it's also broken
No.

When a game has soul, it makes you feel a very strong, specific way about it that nothing had ever made you feel up until that point or ever since. It's the feeling of being enthralled by a gaming experience that fully immerses you. There isn't a sub-category of words that we can use to specifically describe the layers and intricacies of the feeling though - especially when we're thinking about it in retrospect.
this is soul. a messy, unpolished game with very repetitive gameplay, half baked survival mechanics, and a unique cozy vibe that feels both ill fitting of a disaster report game, but also very fresh and charming, while showing the more human side of natural disasters.
I've never seen any gameplay about ICO. All people do is post the cover art not talk about the game. Is the game even any good?
Yes, it's a really good puzzle/platformer/escort game
the irony is you are just repeating the same kneejerk response soulless individuals such as you use when the topic of soulful games comes up, because it frustrates you that you can't see and feel what other are seeing and feeling.
and feel what other are seeing and feeling.
Formerly Chuck's
I played the talos principle when I was 30 and it is soulful. Now what?
saved
Soul can be found in any media of decent quality made before the world finally, unequivocally, turned to shit. I'll place a date of 2012 on this but you could slide it forward or backwards a few years.
Even most excellent media made today doesn't have soul, because it just doesn't. I think it's easier for TV shows and movies though. Even though I love BG3 it doesn't have soul. I hope Clair Obscur Expedition 33 has soul but I don't think it will because it's on unreal engine.
These are my real and honest thoughts and I can't back them up with anything.
Something Jews will never have.
You can only tell when it's not there.
Nothing makes a person feel more alive in this life than the excitement of experiencing something novel. That's essentially what it is. It's when a game puts you in a state of natural high which is elevated by the promise of more to come. PURE SOUL
whats wrong with being jewish?
Passion.
Bad games can still be soulful (glover, quest 64). People will say old = soul, but it's not that new games can't have soul, its that more new games are just pumped out by corporations to make money. In the 90s you had to be an actual computer nerd very passionate to even attempt to program a video game. Now anybody can do it.
It's a supremacist religion that divides mankind between the chosen and their inferiors, wherein evil done to those inferiors can be justified if it's for the sake of the chosen.
Has visuals that were popular when you were a kid
sounds like christianity.
From a lot of posts here, soul is anything that's not a sequel, remake, reboot, spin-off, nor released post-2016
speaking of buzzwords, any one has that chart that gets posted here with all buzzwords on two axis and a game in each combination, like "forced soul"?
Christianity is a universalist religion that at worst must still consider every human a *potential* brother.
yes.
its a feeling, if you need it to be described then you will never understand
Here's an example of a game that doesn't have almost any soul: Shadow the Hedgehog
it's when it was more than just a job to the people making it
bro thinks he is unique for thinking a popular old game had good art direction
When devs put passion into a game to make sure gamers have as much fun as possible
Sthg really does feel like Sega just trying to cash in on the shadow popularity.
what if shadow... had guns and swore??
Sounds like the kind of shit a middle schooler would come up with, but I guess that was the point.
When something is made with care, it makes a difference to the quality.
The last post is very important
Games don't feel honest anymore. It feels like they try to waste your time or distract you so you don't notice a huge flaw with the design
Passion and creative vision is SOUL
spyro 2 is the best spyro, thats all
browning of the internet coincides exactly with the rise of sonygggers on Anon Babble
HMMMM
The forced meme version of nostalgia.
Baby didn't hurt me
It's that tingly feeling you get in your balls when you play a game that's flawed, but has enough good points that hit just right.
Whatever it means to you
