Was it really that better gaming in the 90s?

Was it really that better gaming in the 90s?

what game is that

edugaming

Nah, not really. Gaming is better now than it has ever been.

Everything was better before the internet was overrun by thirdworlders and faggots.

i had that game, i forget what it's called

CRTs make your eyes hurt

It was best from 1996 to 2006.

I can lie in my bed with my arms around my daki playing a game on my switch and detached joycons that's on the level graphically of what blew my fucking mind in 2010
honestly gaming is better than it ever has been in many ways

It was best from 1996 to 2006.

Some of the best games of all time came out before 1996 you fucking zoomer faggot.

I get that you made that reply so you can whine more about zoomers, but even so, your statement doesn't change anything about what I said.

lol, internet.

I get that you made that reply so you can whine more about zoomers, but even so, your statement doesn't change anything about what I said.

Ok retard

best JRPG = Chrono Trigger or FFVI

best Mario game = 3 or World

best Donkey Kong Country game = 1 or 2

best Zelda = 1 or LTTP or LA

Even if all those statements were true (they aren't), there are more genres than JRPGs and more series than Mario, DK, and Zelda.

Well, you can play Donkey Kong Country 2 today for free. It cost 80 dollars (not adjusted) in the 90s. Make of that what you will.

Early 90's gaming was still too archaic, but late 90's gaming was pure SOVL

I rented it for $2.

Even if all those statements were true (they aren't), there are more genres than JRPGs and more series than Mario, DK, and Zelda.

Please explain how it isn't true.
And ok, what 2D games exist that are better than Mario and DKC?

Early 90's gaming was still too archaic

Are you fucking retarded? Mario World plays superior to Mario Wonder. And LTTP is still the best Zelda game.

There were fewer strings

Gaming has always been shit. All of these 40 year old virgins on this site should have spent that time studying and getting degrees instead of rotting their brains.

yes, mostly because of no internet.

All I know is that I had a good time back then and enjoyed most of the games I've played that I could get my hands on. I really enjoyed discovering new games, sharing them with family and friends, watching the advancements of technology over the years, and I felt optimistic looking forward to what the future may bring.

Now, not so much.

Gaming was better back then because games were made by small groups of nerds genuinely liked computers and video games and wanted to make unapologetic fun times. Games of the last 15 years are made by guys with business degrees who hire a team of psychologists to create the most addictive experience possible. That's why it's soulless now

I agree with your post

This

same

Zoom zoom. Snes emulation was pretty much the same in the 90s as it is today. Everyone was emulating snes games back then.

It was an era of experimentation and innovation.
It was less polished, but far more creative. Almost every game tried something new or different. They didn't always work, but the was a satisfaction and engagement to learning a new game every time you started a new game. You never just picked something up and played because it was the same as 400 other games you'd played to death already. You needed to observe, learn, and adapt. It kept you mentally engaged.

YOU FUCKING ZOOMERS, MILLENIALS AND GEN-XERS DON'T KNOW WHAT REAL GAMING IS, PICREL WAS PEAK AND ITS BEEN A DOWNFALL EVER SINCE, KYS FUCKING RETARDED NEWFAGS AAAACK

I don't read books nowadays

because every book as the same letters as 400 other books

You are an idiot.

And somehow games of the 90's are still more addicting and hold your attention longer than the trash entire teams of psychiatrists put together.
Or maybe I'm just autistic and immune to their propaganda and bullshit.

Reading books is not an interactive process anon, that's a flawed comparison.

People look at the 90s with rose tinted glasses, there was alot of low quality releases and shovelware, the technology was a real limiting factor, some games and genres were purely and simply impossible. That said the big difference was that big budget blockbuster releases were actually good, in fact they were so good that they still BTFO games that are released today from big publishers. Another thing is that there was alot more variety because devs were still figuring things out, experimenting and creating new genres. Nowadays everything has to be a 3rd person action adventure/shooter using the same control scheme and mechanics because of course it has to, it's not "modern" otherwise.

fart sounds

kek'd

I agree. I predominantly play 8 and 16 bit games from the late 80s/90s but I play modern stuff. Something like overwatch isn't really fun but it's super addictive and I can see how people get sucked in. This seems to be the case for most popular modern games. But something like super Castlevania 4 is fun and pretty much infinitely repayable. It wasn't made by behavioral scientists, just dudes who thought it'd be cool to make a game where you fight through Draculas castle with a whip while bitchin music plays

Yeah because triple A industry used to put out more niche games and had a wider array of genres. We're getting something only slightly comparable in the indie scene today. And i still don't think it holds up to what a team could do back then with their budgets.

I'd take your opinion more seriously if you didn't just list off a bunch of kids games

It was. Zsnes was fully functional by 97 and could run on a toaster. Plus the game doctor 2 was around since the mid 90s and lots of people had that

kids games

Oooh, I'm sorry. You must be from r/maturegamers

ZSNES was a landmark emulator and an iconic piece of gaming history, but it wasn't ever fully functional. Even in the 2000s it was still having transparency and sound issues. And considering it was abandoned in 2007 it has hundreds of issues that will never be resolved, not the least of which is a massive ACE vulnerability.

Super addicting

I get bored and wonder why I'm playing after a single match. If I see 'battlepass' or any of that other garbage I don't even bother playing because I know it's not going to unlock anything fun in a reasonable timeframe, and expects me to play for three actual weeks realtime to unlock a new character or anything of actual worth. Then I go look up some abandonware or some shit and spend a solid week trying to figure out how to play, how everything interacts, what the optimum playstyles are, ect, because older games weren't terrified to have mechanical depth.
