We had perfectly functioning emulators until Nintendo aggressively took them down. They are no longer publicly available and forks are being taken down as soon as they go up. What fucking emulator can develop in this environment? The Tegra X1 had known exploits before Switch even existed and homebrew scenes had way less heat on them than they do. The emulators were using reverse engineered code and now the cat’s out of the bag, there’s no legal ground to stand on and Nintendo is flying goons out to Brazil to make hackers offers they cant refuse. This is just a completely different environment we’re in, not to mention none of the other newer consoles have been cracked, on top of the fact the Switch 2’s chip was custom made with Nvidia, not the bargain bin leftovers of Nvidia Shield. Nintendo doesnt want a repeat so they’ll have locked down the security as far as they reasonable can. It will take years for homebrew to kick off at this rate, and that’s a generous estimate.

Here’s the other problem with the forks: no real progress has been made since the yuzu and ryujinx teams were disbanded. Even if you can get a fork going, what advancements are actually being made, what improvements are they making? The reality is progression on switch emulation has come to a screeching halt, and that’s fine because the emulators are in a good enough state where they generally dont need too many updates for the remaining switch games that have come out recently or will come out in the near future. But that’s a scene that had the benefit of years and years of Nintendo not actively pursuing them or trying to take them down. Yuzu and Ryujinx are dead and the lead devs behind them are either in hiding or under litigation. If you compare the environment Switch launched with compared to the current oppressive one it’s night and day. There is no simple paperclip method this time around, and you these communities still operate way too sloppily to avoid getting raped by Nintendo again because you have all these retards running around yapping about what are the best sites for emulation.
