There's not really anything to actually do in small towns or rural areas besides get drunk, get high on crank, or go to a GOP agitprop church. I live in OKC, its pretty "small" in its nature compared to big cities, but it has basically everything. There are loads of concerts and stand up acts that visit the city, there are loads of parks and in-built lakes, there's this giant arcade/laser tag themed place with mini golf called the brickopolis, there's a zoo, there are loads of places you can hang out and play video games or even tabletop, there are loads of raunchy stuff like sex shops, bars, gay bars, themed bars ie a retro 80's bar, there's even a gay district with a cowboy themed bar and rave clubs, there's a big downtown area with loads of shops and restaurants, there are lots of jobs so if you get fired from one you're not totally fucked like if you live in one of those small towns with below 10k people. It's still a huge city but safer than places like NYC where you do have public transport and the city was built for walking, but it's way more unsafe to the point where you're still gonna be stuck in your roach and rat apartment because you won't wanna go out. Netherlands is another place where you can have a comfy smaller town life too. Not much "comfy" feelings in countries where you have to drive everywhere for everything at all times. Yeah this was the worst thing about living in a little town. All the cool stuff was about half an hour out and my dad was always super reluctant to drive out any further than the grocery store. Our local theatre was a dollar theatre that got 2 movies after a few months and never showed any R rated films. I missed so many good movies back then solely because I couldn't go to any of the good theatres.
