What do you think Owlcat will get right and what do you think they'll mess up (besides bugs)
Dark Heresy
right
the music
fuck up
the secret ending, the power level
why is the ogryn an ogrynlet?
Convince me to play rogue trader
t. mostly play JRPGs and certain WRPGs like mass effect and the witcher
Don't. It's not a game for you. Not trying to gatekeep or anything. It just doesn't seem like you'll enjoy that kind of game
It's only worth it if you really like 40K, the combat becomes trivial very early on due to how badly they designed the turn based combat, and the story, narrative and companions basically stop existing during and certainly post Act 3, leading to an unfinished and unsatisfying end game that is so sparse and cobbled together it feels like it shouldn't even be in the game. I can't really recommend it if you want a good CRPG to play, the only good parts of the game are the first two acts and even then you'll only like them if you enjoy 40K as a setting.
Check out videos a out gameplay, it's turn based combat, not sure if you will like it, it's not like JRPGs or the westenr ones you mentioned.
The other thing is, the game is narrative heavy and a lot of the text isn't voiced.
If you don't mind those 2 things, then thr game is pretty damn good. It's a decent entry CRPG since it's pretty easy to build an OP character.
Mass Effect and Witcher are barely even role playing games. Just call then narrative action games, that's far more accurate.
RT is good, it has a decent story, and a bunch of cool characters. Not their best work, but it's up there especially if you're into 40k.
Redditors aren't people.
Cassia is basically a cute 2D tsundere noblewoman you have to woo
I want more controllable units, bigger battles with more enemies, larger maps and more elevations. 6 units in crpgs always felt too little
I liked Kingdom management, advisors, claiming regions and more indepth city building in Kingmaker and I wish all of it was in RT alongside that date system with flowing time where traveling and ruling took time. In Dark Heresy it could be replaced with some sort of investigation system where you have to gather clues and then once you become Inquisitor (lord) management of lesser Inquisitors/Interrogators and sending them on missions and stuff X-com style
I liked Space Battles in RT and I wish they were expanded with additional ships to control, changing of a ship, more modularity etc. In fact if you had to actually recruit and take care of your fleet and armies in RT it would be great. In Dark Heresy with your Ebon Hawk smaller ship Space Battles could be modeled after FTL where bigger emphasis is put on crew management and what they do within the ship.
I liked that Owlcat tried to merged narrative driven crpgs with strategy games and I don't want them to stop and just make generic crpgs like everyone else.
Actually if Owlcat would make fantasy/space fantasy X-com where you command your own mercenary company and where emphasis is put on creating your mercs it would be fucking great.

You ever try Gothic Armada or Gothic Armada 2? If not, give it a go, it's pretty fun, especially 2.
Try Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children, best tactics game ever made.
Dogshit because no romance, its true
I really liked Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters
mass effect
Yes, I played both. Cool games. Too bad that sequel never got Eldar campaign where you could command Craftworld, Corsair and Dark Eldar ships.
I saw it in Anon Babble, but haven't tried yet.
They addressed the reasons for that, though.
at least they're honest, I respect that
kek
How do get into 40k? I've been wanting to get into it for a while but I've been busy with work so never had time to start, what should I start with?
Now I kinda wish they had a few of those cool Navigator helmets for Cassia
I'm pretty sure 40k has a few pieces of art where the Navigators have helmets
I know Yrliet and Ulfar both get head pieces that are helmets. I think Yrliet even has one of those eye pieces that the corsairs wear sometimes, and an outcast mask. Ulfar gets classic space marine helmet, and I think one with the ponytail.
Rogue Trader's a pretty good entry point because there's optional dialogue that treats you like you don't know a thing for every major faction.
Could also do the traditional method and play Dawn of War.
They should make dlcs that rework 4th and 5th act. 4th in particular, 5th is just an epilogue anyway, I don't feel like it really needs to have more content. There are enough companions desu. 3rd season should be this.
get a brief recap on youtube or something and then play RT
5th act was actually really good. It was a "point of no return" act.
4th act is the one that desperately needs to be redone. It needs to double, triple in size even. Needs several planets dedicated to both Chorda and Winterscale domains, their issues, and taking them down/allying with them and then another third of it needs to be the Final Dawn and that entire thing.
I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. I really wish other developers would become aware of Troubleshooter: Abandoned Children just so they would copy their combat system, it really is an improvement that solves a lot of the typical issues of turn based combat.

I'll look into that since I see it's on console
Could also do the traditional method and play Dawn of War.
I hope my shitty laptop can run it, I really need to get a new pc instead of this work laptop
Are there any books, comics or such I can read? I'm much more keen on reading than watching in all honesty
Owlcat will never fix the end game, the DLCs are just going to be stand alone content from the beginning to the end, they realized people will fork over money for a new companion and integrated content and so that's what they're going to keep doing.
I hope my shitty laptop can run it, I really need to get a new pc instead of this work laptop
Anon, Dawn of War is from 20 years ago. You'll be fine.
There are no good Warhammer books, they're all written by subhumans who GW keeps on staff to churn out the disgusting drivel they produce for locked in fans who will buy anything and everything regardless of its quality.
no penids
Are there any books, comics or such I can read?
Read the Einsehorn novels for classic 40k. They're actually really good and about as stereotypical of the setting while still having good narrative and compelling character.
From there really depends on what you like.
books
if you want to read books, then read something good instead of GW slop
Give her the helmet of the merc
Maybe I will check it out on some sale
Sorry anon, not sure which helmet that is.
The generic navigator merc has a helmet in it's artwork, although I've never actually seen the model so maybe the helmet isn't even in the game, like Argenta's sister of battle helmet
Love the portrait edit, anon. Looks like he'd bro it up with Winterscale
There is nothing trundere about her
Redo 4th, 3rd, and parts of 2nd act. I'd also add some stuff to the first act. And add an act between acts 2 and 3. Very obvious there was supposed to be one
Not just art, the current official navigator mini has that helmet.
And add an act between acts 2 and 3. Very obvious there was supposed to be one
I think it's just that cumrag is a big sidequest. They had to put a lot of manpower, time and effort into it, instead of something else. If it was removed and instead those resources were put into act 4, fleshed out with politicking with/against other Traders game would feel more natural. You are being introduced to other RTs which makes you feel like this is what next act will be about and then you go to fuck around with deldar.
And I say this as someone who liked this space shithole
eldar are no-tiddy ugly crackwhores
I'm out.
good go back to your porn
NOOOO THE CHARACTERS HAVE TO BE UGLY!
lined up next to peak male specimen and GIGGACHAD
Look, you can have your gachimuchi marines, all I want is she elves that aren't hideous.

Not the crossover I was expecting.
try a different game then
You know, I remember the last time someone said that.
lex imperalis
yes you play 40k games for hot sexy women. I remember them all in SM2
yes you play 40k games for hot sexy women
Yes, it's always been that way, Eldar have always been stunning icons of beauty and refinement, and this latest portrayal is comically inaccurate to every other portrayal of them in video games.
my theory is we'll have Ulfar again as a returning companion.
He makes the most sense. That being said, maybe not though, Owlcat hasnt done that before.
all the negative reviews are made by guys with like 10 hours
all the positive reviews have people with 300+ or even 1000+
devs literally responding genuinely to each and every review I can find
Wtf even if this wasn't described as anime xcom I would be interested in it for those reasons alone. What a cool sounding game and good set of devs
If you like xcom and 40k you will like cg daemonhunters
You will never touch a female elf
You are like going to a steak house for the salad.
I chose this faction because it has women!
What a fucking faggot.
can you fuck the kroot? this is the only thing I'm concerned about
These characters shouldn't be ugly, and haven't been ugly historically speaking
You PERVERT! How DARE you expect characters to be APPEALING! EVERYONE must look absolutely HEINOUS in my videogames!
This mentality of "everything must be awful" is why the original Dawn of War was the high water mark for 40k video games.
Maybe, if instead of redesigning functional designs to be as heinous as possible, you focused on making good video games, you would have more good 40k video games.
Stellar Blade must be 10/10 for you
Romance, probably
Fuck? No, it's a kroot
game no one mentioned built entirely around vaguely lewd outfits immediately comes to mind when the topic of not making characters ugly is brought up
You are terminally obsessed with the success of a mid tier softcore Korean hentai game to the point where you cannot have a coherent discussion about anything else without subconsciously being being affected by it, you are mentally unwell, go outside and stop interacting with the internet immediately.
EVERYONE must look absolutely HEINOUS in my videogames!
No, just in 40k games.
Nobody is going over to JRPGs and ask them to make every character ugly brutes.
No, just in 40k games
Too bad, this is an Owlcat game first and foremost
Why would you want characters in your game to look ugly no matter the franchise
hentai game
so you ADMIT its a porn game
Yeah Pasqal and Abelard are very sexy
No, just in 40k games.
For a lot of the races and contexts it makes sense, but for the eldar it really just doesn't.
They've always had a certain elegance to them that implies an appreciation for beauty and refinement, and to portray them as ugly feels like it betrays their theme.
Work on your reading comprehension.
I'm sure the women that voted consider them sexy. Either way, you lost, Owlcat characters are not ugly for the most part, usually the exception are the token blacks. Now go make a thread crying about chuds or something
Do you think Yrliet, Marazhai and Marz's sister are hot
Black female is considered the least appealing
So they decided to add another one?
I will only play this is there's a kroot romance
And remember you will never fuck a female elf or a sister
Turns out they don't listen you fags crying for sexy waifu 50000
so you ADMIT its a porn game
Well yeah, I don't really see much else to it than cheap lewd thrill, I also just don't care for the type of game it is at it's core and the vaguely lewd outfits aren't really all that interesting when there's a wealth of dedicated erotic games available that do the job infinitely better.
you will never fuck a female elf or a sister
Why would I want that, I'm busy fucking a fish
I half agree with you, but the problem with these faggots is how they want their eldar waifus (and they only care about waifus) to look exactly like bog-standard humans with pointy ears, and the video games have always been very guilty of portraying their appearance as overly human-like.
Yes, the same faggots will again cherrypick the same image of Yvraine or some other fanart. I could also cherrypick and post some of these uggo eldar of more recent art, and these then suddenly don't count. We had this discussion a million years.
You can look weird and still elegant. You can look alien and still refined. Making them just good-looking normal humans also betrays their theme.
Garbage threads.
Oh so you're mad no waifu on the cover. Were you gooning to the tiny image of Cassia back then or the figure?
As an Yrlietsimp, actually like how ugly Yrliet is
She's a standoffish weirdo that doesn't even have any eldar friends. She's supposed to be not hot
Oh so you're mad no waifu on the cover
I'm not, take your meds
What's being replaced by Investigations/Interrogation in Dark Heresy? I remember something is getting taken out from Rogure Trader.
Do you think Yrliet, Marazhai and Marz's sister are hot
7.5/10, pretty in line with what I'd expect from the eldar and definitely not bad in terms of looks if a little more on the subtle side.
Marazhai is definitely more geared to a female audience so I can't quite judge, but he seems pretty well put together and appealing given the context.
I would definitely say none of them are explicitly unappealing.
I just want the Craftworld Eldar character to be a male for fucking once when they're in a 40k game. Luckily Dark Heresy has one but that's it. I'm fucking tired of female Eldar.
Momentum in combat is being taken out, replaced by morale
The investigation system is the new minigame or metagame, taking the place maybe of the planetary management
tfw no incredibly arrogant and snobby corsair prince who becomes your best bro after the halfway point
Ship Combat, Trade Dynasty Management. There’s also the Momentum to Morale swap.
I'm fucking tired of female Eldar
And I'm tired of eldar, their inclusion just brings down the quality of the games and the quality of the discussion
I think that's a fair point to make, Eldar really should have a unique look to them, making them "humans but immortal with pointy ears" kinda takes all the fun out of having an alien race in the first place.
Owlcat seems to like them
Eldar are by far the most likely xenos ally to humans so they're going to keep popping up.
I just really want a Daemonhost. Female could potentially make it extra spicy and seems like the kind of thing Owlcat would be into. But even a male Daemonhost party member seems full of interesting RPG potential.
I want a young innocent farmboy who got somehow stuck as a Daemonhost (of the modern variety where the original soul is still in there, not the Cherubael kind). Someone you'd really pity even in 40k, who did nothing wrong and got stuck with a worse fate than death.
Never thought I'd die fighting side by side with a xeno
How about side by side with a friend?
let's stick with "esteemed associate"
RT is what ME: Andromeda wanted to be also it's a good introduction into the lore of 40K. It's also really accessible for a CRPG there isn't an extreme learning curve. You can literally just build your character by picking the recommendations and you will breeze through the game.
Good use of the 40k setting and doesn't require any existing familiarity, everything is explained with tooltips. For example
Lord Captain! You're alive! Praise [the Emperor]!
Then when you mouse over [the Emperor] the tooltip pops up with "the millennia-old master of mankind, who is worshipped as a god. Most would go mad with despair if they knew the truth"
The characters at first seem like plain archetypes (experienced old first officer, eager-for-combat sister of battle, guarded space elf, stern inquisitor, sleazy nobleman etc) but they all have more depth than first appears and are quite interesting.
The combat is turn based, and is pretty good once you get it working. It's pretty crunchy. It's all about building up stacks of effects on the targets and having them feed back on each other and on yourself in interesting ways, then suddenly you're doing 1000 bleed damage per turn. You also have abilities that give extra turns to your other characters which is a big mechanic. A lot of the fun is respeccing and experimenting with different builds (this is easy to do in-game)
I would suggest the Void Shadows DLC, it's very good and completely integrated into the main game. It adds more areas to your ship and gives personalities to some bridge crew who didn't have any before.
