Maybe if you take into consideration that their economies are struggling and they often get into problems related to mismanagement of public funds given corrupt politicians, the inability to manage their governments and being prime examples of stagnation might have something to do with the fact that they might just be somewhat ideologically socialist. I wouldn't call it communist outright, obviously, as almost no modern nations refer to themselves as such, but the fact of the matter is that communism set a precedence for these nation's ideological leanings today. Eastern Europe aren't even the only ones that have these same issues, but the fact that communism was alive and well during a time and their subsequent socialist leanings today, do actually translate as it being an echo of their former selves. Europe as a whole have issues with socialism, but being former communist states that still work as socialist nations to this day is a reminder of the fact that prior to socialism existing in its current form there were communist roots for their current alignment.
