Depends on the game. Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes were games I grew up with and have emotional attachment.
I love them and apreciate them-but replaying them as adults-yeah, they are total ass.

Helldivers 2 is pretty great, I’d recommend it. Dwarf Fortress on Steam might not be “new” but it’s more pleasant than the older versions. The Total Warhammer series is really fun too, and CK3 is a proper upgrade from the old game.

I think we've just become so used to modern conventions that we aren't willing to really take the time to learn old games. I have a lot more respect from them now. I just wish game overs sending you back to the start of the game wasn't so common at the time.
