He did absolutely nothing wrong

He did absolutely nothing wrong

file.jpg - 1920x1920, 875.61K

Yeah we know.

He did. He admitted it himself. He also admitted that although he doesn't want to destroy anything, he would do it again to save his family. That's why he's such a good character. No moralizing. Who wouldn't sacrifice strangers to save their loved ones? That's the truth that some idiots try not to think about.

You seem to have posted the wrong image, but I'll forgive your confusion.

jobbed to his wife so hard his daughter had to intervene to help

still ended up in a stalemate

Needed to get bailed out by his other daughter

Jobbed to her as well

*Thunk*
M-My knees!
*Thunk*
They're so heavy!
*Thunk*
I'm being forced to kneel!

every time I heard his cane rhythmically hitting the ground I cheered. He's such a cool character.

I need to replay this again, a lot of the beginning is kind of a blur but knowing what I know now about the setting should make a 2nd playthrough more interesting.

Thanks for giving us the heads up that sissy hypnosis is actually effective.

Did he have an endgame or was he just trying to protect he family for as long as he could before the world inevitably crumbled?

Probably the latter.

I'd recommend it. There's likely even more foreshadowing than you realize, and a decent amount of things that make more sense with full context. If you know any French I'd switch languages too, it's more direct on some things English is ambiguous on for example, "Those who know not that they are not" from act 1 painted Alicia translates more like "Those who don't know that they don't exist" in French

thinking he can just smash things when stuff doesn't go his way

What was the ending of his genius plan? Getting killed by his wife or she killing herself?

Get her out of there, no matter the cost, even if she went nuts and killed him.

Even the music, with Renoir and Aline literally mentioned in the songs arguing with one another to leave the canvas. If you knew French the game was probably already spoiled for you during Act 2.

I know French but I didn't listen to the lyrics while I'm busy parrying a boss on Expert

bros im ngl. ng+ is kinda a pushover and not very fun. should i just do a regular NG on expert?

He tried to save his suicidal wife and daughter and they didn't even ask for the help

so he's essentially hitler.

Both Renoirs are fantastic antagonists.

I'm on NG3 and I can't beat Simon, the rest was easy though. So maybe try Simon. I can get him to maybe 1/3rd before he fucks me up.

He's the good guy for sure. Dude wanted to save his catatonic family from rotting away in a manor playing pretend like they are on second life.

Just wanted as much time as possible. he knew the real him was gonna nuke everything and that Aline was protecting them all.

He killed millions.

You could probably just remove Painted Power for a similar experience, but yeah you don't have to engage with anything playing ng+ normally.

He killed Gustave, fuck you.

I havent played the game but I know he's evil because he's clearly older than 33.

Once Aline left the painting he had no reason to genocide Lumiere, but did it anyway despite knowing that it would leave three of Maelle's companions alive.

He's a fucking retard like the rest of his idiot family.

he had no reason to genocide Lumiere

He was deleting the entire painting.

He literally didn't

aline literally comes back inside the painting 2 hours later

alicia refuses to leave and would literally just run back in and chroma everyone back to existence if allowed

He was absolutely right in burning down the painting

PRenoir would never have killed Gustave if not for the actions of Renoir.

Nah bro, he just blew a hole in him. The blood loss is what killed him!

Fuck you.
I'm now leaving this thread before I get spoilers as I'm only a decent chunk into act 2

the only wa a commoner can enter a Canvas is by the permission of a Painter.
a Painter can force a commoner to enter or exit a Canvas.
"work for me like a slave and I will reward you with a lifetime of heaven inside the painting"

yeah he's not a good guy

>aline literally comes back inside the painting 2 hours later

And then immediately leaves again.
Renoir's fears were completely unfounded and only made things worse.

THUMP

Thump...

thump....

6477824.jpg - 600x595, 43.76K

He wasn't going to destroy it anymore, but Alicia had to be a lying spoiled drug addict

The Renoir in the OP isn't the Renoir from act 1/2

He had no way of knowing how the outside world impacted the Canvas. He just wants his kids to survive and have meaningful lives. Real Renoir wants the same thing and wouldn't have begrudged him, given how he treats fake Verso.

He wasn't going to destroy it anymore

He absolutely was trying to destroy it.

He says he's not going to after his boss fight in act three. The entire difference in the endings is if Alicia forced to grow up or is allowed to keep being a child. If things get bad enough Clea and he will grab her ass and force her out. She's not Aline.

Yeah until we talked him out of it and verso had to do it himself

Why do toy even come discuss the game's lore if you haven't finished it you absolute retard?

Maelle doesn't believe him, why do you?

Should have had more daughters

She does though. She even thanks him after the boss fight.

Yet she tells Verso that Renoir will destroy the canvas the second she steps out.

"your honor, i shot this man because of the tarrifs! trump is to blame for this murder, not me!"

True because he’s not real
:)

Reminder that Maellefags are all bugmen and should not be trusted with anything

That's real Renoir you mongoloid.

new villain drops

Anon Babble fresh and original take:

BRO HE DID NOTHING WRONG BRO HE JUST LIKE ME BRO FR BRO !

How is he a villain? Explain? If anything, he's an antagonist, but it's absolutely impossible to call him a villain.

the mass murderer is not a villain bro i swear bro fr bro !

Claims he has to destroy the canvas because they won't leave

They're only still in it to stop him from destroying it

Way to go Renoir.

none of the people he killed are real

To be honest, there were probably better approaches. If he took a more gradual and supportive approach than "I'm going to kill everything in this canvas and drag you out by force" method then he probably could have done it in quicker than 67 years.

So the world in the game is a fake painting created by verso and his mom and dad are hanging out in there having a slap fight because muh dead son and neet daughter while in the real world there's a war between writers and painters because fuck knows why?
Did I get it right?

yeah

"you killed people in gta??? you murderer!!!"

Then the real world is fine? there's no cataclysmic event that ruined everything it's just writers and painters fighting over something??????

The cataclysmic event was Renoir trying to destroy the canvas after Aline spent who knows how long in there after Verso's death

I choose the get the bitch out of the painting ending because fuck you if I have to go to work tomorrow you too have to face reality
Escapism bad

Yeah the only problem is Aline and Renoir being trapped inside the canvas and slowly dying. Writers never get elaborated on.

all he did was literally just "stop playing videogames all day alicia and do your chores"

He's aware the lives in the painting have value but still culled thousands of them every year. Which is pretty monstrous and clearly wasn't convincing his wife of anything anyways

My wife spends all day every day playing the sims ignoring reality because she can't face the fact our son croaked

Delete her save

OMG YOU FUCKING MONSTER YOU KILLED MILLIONS

They were FAKE

I was going to let Alicia enjoy her escapism until she didn't give a fuck about Verso letting Gustave die
Fuck the Dessendres. Every single one. Suffer in reality bitch.

It was more like doing this

50392.png - 1280x720, 2.09M

They're going to suffer more in Alicia's ending

I'd rather Alicia suffer every moment of her life with her burn injuries and destroy the last piece of Verso's soul. Aline and Renoi will still be coping for the rest of their lives regardless. I don't think they really care for Alicia much. Maybe Renoir does.

she didn't give a fuck about

But she did, that's why she mindraped him into being her piano bitch.

can someone explain what Clea ment in the tower secret boss area? Kinda sounded like she was fine with Alicia just living in the painting if she wanted to.

just trying to protect he family

He's only trying to protect Painted Alicia

Gustave would of never been born in the first place without Renoir breaking everything.

More or less. She doesn't want Alicia to become a total addict like Aline, but Clea also thinks both parents are being selfish and immature, and ultimately feels Alicia owes them nothing and should do what she wants to do.

Clea hates Alicia because she flirts with writing among other reasons, in case the way she treated her at the beginning of act 3 wasn't telling enough

Why wouldn’t she be? The only reason she helped Renoir against Aline is because she needs his help against the writers. But he won’t help until he gets his wife back.

The real world isn't real either. That's only hinted at though.

We can’t really know that. But he would at the very least be a very different person.

What do you mean? When Lune says "a painting within a painting" or something else? Please, elaborate more, anon

Alicia clutching to that Esquie plushy like it's the only thing keeping her from topping off a building while Gustave beckons in the background, "come, on, cuckoo, jump already" is the greatest image in the game. Warmed my heart seeing it.

Also between that, one of Renoir's lines about Verso's death being the "folly of his parents", and that Monolith flashback segment with Aline standing in a fire alone, it seems to me that while Alicia blames herself for Verso's death, it likely had nothing to do with her and she's as much of a victim as he was.

Check Verso's tombstone in his ending

The only reason the expedition 33 was successful was all because Gustave's inventions, right? Even tho he's just a painted being, he managed to change everything
For those who come after

They beat you over the head with the fact it was the combined effort of all previous expeditions. The explosives, climbers and grappling hook expeditions were the MVPs

WOW, THAT'S ONE CRAZY DETAIL YOU MANAGED TO CATCH ON, congrats, anon, I was too emotional during this cutscene to even notice

clea doesn't care and thinks the whole thing is retarded

expedition 60 reached the paintress using nothing more than peak male physique, everyone else was just having a serious skill issue

what about it?

Well, they also had the luck of not getting obliterated by Reynor as soon as they arrived at the continent

How did they even get past the gommage wall? I never found that out.

Anon........... December 33??? Really? Think about it

You are now imagining renoir trolling expeditions over the radio and calling them faggits

Oh shit 33. Also he died a lot older than I thought

Lmfao, also we don't use faggots anymore, the new term is "baggots"

how does they prove anything, they just have a different calendar

Muscles.

Simon was just buffed by Clea's painting god powers and he wasn't actually a gigachad, right?

Monoco and fake verso's bromance

That hit me harder than anything else in the game.

It's unclear. "Aline" "helped him descend beneath the monolith" but we can't know if that was actually Aline or not because Clea will just overwrite people as she likes.
youtube.com/watch?v=eQ_NxPYDtFU

you DID snuggle with him, right Anon Babble?

Probably both, but she definitely singled him out and buffed him to the moon.

Of course I did

Little spoon?

Just finished the game up. It was good.

After act 2, I assumed the intent that you were supposed to go around and clear the rest of the world before heading for the confrontation in Lumiere, so I did that. But then when I finally showed up to the finale it turns out I had gotten extremely overleveled and I ended up just one shotting Renoir. Oops.

Also

Every cutscene with Verso awkwardly standing in the back while everyone is getting emotional about his dead self and ignoring him completely.

100%

Evil bitch ciel would ditch you for her dead husband in a heartbeat

Bronoko would duel you to the death and snuggle after

The romance choice is pretty clear and I'm not even homosexual.

This implies that their world might be another world inside of our world, like a videogame, yeah, shit's really meta

>Every cutscene with Verso awkwardly standing in the back while everyone is getting emotional about his dead self and ignoring him completely.

Pure kino.

Honestly the game looks like it was carefully designed to appeal to me on purpose just so it could turn around halfway through and slap me with the trope I hate the most in fiction. It feels like the writers were deriving pleasure from seeing me fall for it and I don't like it.

Anon, it's just a fantasy world, fantasy worlds can have different calendars from ours. It doesn't have to go that deep.

33rd of december

Expedition 33rd

THE NUMBERS MASON
WHAT DO THEY MEAN

Explain the year 33 painting in the real world manor

He didn't keep control of his wife or daughters, he's a shitty dad.

Clea took a screenshot of the canvas, next.

The real world section happens in year 49

SEX WITH CLEA

You can adjust screenshots.

This nigga is funny

He trusted his daughter.

Why did the "paintress" kill the people though? What was the reason for that?

She didn't
How did you miss that

She didn't. The numbers she painted on the monolith were a warning as Renoir slowly managed to erase her creations, beginning with the oldest.

I feel like I should be annoyed by the way this story turned out. They somehow didn't piss me off with it though. I guess because I have a soft gay spot for family drama being bloated up to epic proportions, but also because they gave us a sliver of a look into ANOTHER world that I'm interested in seeing more of (the painters vs writers).
Having said that though... I'm pretty worried it NOT pissing me off was a huge fluke and that they might actually be hacks who just managed to hit most notes perfect on their first foray.

Completely missed the point award

why did they have to make his battle theme sound like a church worship song? it's really offputting. I loved the game but some of the music misses from a composition standpoint.

i watched some gameplay videos. doesnt look good ngl

It wasn't working, dipshit.

You must have played some other game because they make it very clear she wasn't the one killing people

Holy retardation

Fucking poorfag lmfao

it feels pretty nice to play as far as the 4 niggas in a row genre goes

EZ bait gotta save this question for all the dogshit threads that get spammed here.

Doing the side mission to revive noco[/spoiler

I have to use monoco in a fight

This nigga has been benched since I got him what the fuck man. No joke he's got like 80 stat points saved up because I've never used him

Just dodge with Monoco and toss items to Verso if he needs them, that's how I did it.

monoco has objectively the strongest abilities if you farm the right ones, he nukes battles I'm underleveled for

wife and daughter being fucking addicts addicted to this fake world, literally killing themselves every second they're in the canvas

is trying to do anything he can to save their lives and get them out

Why are women so fucking stupid

TIL that the globe in Clair Obscur's manor doesn't reflect the real world of the early 20th century but a fantasy alternate timeline.

She knew that she could bring him back at this point.

save their lives

haha... yeah... why should Alicia be allowed to be a perfect girl inside the canvas, beloved by all. No, she should be forced back to her crummy "real" world as a burn victim with no face, missing an eye and can't even speak. Yup, totally better.

Their world is clearly a writer's story.

Why didn't Renoir just pull his bitch out of the painting like a real man? A real man wouldn't have out up with this shit.

Yeah, that was the thing that was pushing them over the edge. The reason why they could take down the Axons, something that Verso and Monoco failed to do multiple times. Not sure why the other two retards are seething at you over that.

acutally only one of them was seething, sorry ex60 bro.

just pretending to be retarded

what are you gonna buy in the Anon Babble (you) shop?

most powerful skill of Alicia is based on a writer

what does it mean

This, she had her memories as Alicia back. She grieved over Gustave because he was her only family, then she suddenly had one who was real and not a fabrication that could be repainted.

It's okay for you to try and safe face. That at least means that you know that you're stupid.

Do you guys think they're going to force a dogslop sequel to this game where they go more in depth on painters vs. writers?

How is this dude not older than 33?

Alicia got WRITED

it's like drugs with nothing else to it

Simpleminded peasant.

safe face

Lol retard!

deepest lore

They can just make any new game under Clair Obscur with different mediums.

not him, but I missed it because I was up playing the game until 5 am and I couldn't process alicia's prose in the letter.

Verso traded his life for a traitor

it's over...

I prefer Writer only point of view.

Verso stop painting and started being a (Musician). Just like how Aline would have love to prefer to be a {Dancer}.

I've always been getting the feeling that Alicia didn't want to be a painter and wanted to be a writer, which is why she got mixed up with the writers in the first place.

even alicia's skills are telling her to go back to the REAL world

It's never been more over for Maelle and Alicia simps.

Don't forget that Clea's a sculptor

knows Alicia is a selfish cunt, but because he's a loving father, decides to leave it up to her choice to leave the Canvas or not

Alicia is quite literally the antagonist.

look at what all these bitch ass painters are up to lmao such losers

WriteCHADS we RISE

Don't forget Alicia explaining the entire twist of the game by writing Verso a letter

should have sent him a .gif file

everyone else is just holding a magic crystal to add their journal entry

FUCK

Why can't Maelle just leave the fucking painting later on? Why does it feel like the decision is so concrete to just stay there forever? Why can't she just cope for a bit and then step back into normal life for a bit? All because this painting has a remnant of Verso left in it? I mean the REAL Verso is dead so I don't see how this affects him any longer.

I know the whole thing is a metaphor for grief and shit but it feels like the devs are saying that when someone close to you dies you either completely erase them and move on or you cope forever and fie with them. Neither feels like the correct choice.

IT IS TRULY A FUCKING MYSTERY

Forcing Aline to get fat is NOT ok

because verso is over it and proved at the end that he can make the real verso stop sustaining the canvas whenever he wants. also consider that maelle is sixteen and not emotionally mature

I kneel you french bastards
I can't keep up with the inception levels of lore anymore

128323646.gif - 220x145, 745.23K

Knows he is ignorant

Spouts ignorance anyways.

I'm so sorry that your candidate lost in November.

Agree. His presence is strong, motivations are clear and respectable and he's played very well

But.. Verso is dead? So what is this piece of him in the painting? A memory? Does it come with the power of being a "painter"? Is the whole thing a metaphor for moving on and letting go?

andy serkis!

Pierce Brosnan

Not making her a romance option is a mistake. We would've had a kino incestuous tragedy of an ending.

just finished the game
the maelle ending gave me chills
I didn't realize the game would be over if you just went where it told you to go on the map for act 3, I thought there would be more after that and things would open up even more
I should have read a guide I guess but I wanted to do it for myself, oh well lol

It wouldn't matter if Maelle would be reasonable and respect Renoir by leaving and coming back a few times. The main problem is Aline and as long as the canvas has Verso's soul in his playground, she WILL find it and grief in it. Maelle being an autist retarded is just another layer.

The Fading Boy is Verso's Soul that he left while he was painting that canvas as a kid. Painted Verso, the one we're playing, was probably based on that soul and Aline memory. Stopping the boy from painting stop the world from going. Both verso are tired.

Verso, you're projecting your own egomania on your sister again. I bet you only saved her from the flames because you thought you'd look good as a savior.

I think her staying in there protects the canvas from getting smashed by Renoir.
I don't see a reason why they wouldn't be able to come to an agreement later on, though.

I was talking about Renoir, not Verso. Renoir did what most parents would've done, which is sad because he also knew she planned on LARPing until she died, leaving him without any family except Clea.

Yeah but I like how Renoir thinks destroying the last memory of their son will help his wife lol like sure it'll keep her from going back into it but she'll still be a mess.

I think this is pretty much the only time when you can genuinely say this guy did absolutely nothing wrong.
Like he's dealing with a hysterical woman and a teenager who is now experiencing the greatest fears a girl can experience:

Having family members die

Getting horribly mutilated

Obviously Dad is going to have to bring out the belt and stage an intervention.
Even if they stayed in the painting, it wouldn't solve the problem in the long run, it'd just kill more people.

Because she's suicidal (as seen in The reacher), and she rather wither away in a happy dream than return to her reality.

Both his incarnations are basically what the dad from FFXV should have been.

You can reload and do post-game content, the last auto-save is before the boss battle.

forcing obligatory romance shit at all felt so awkward.
ciel is literally mourning her husband and rides every cock she sees, and lune is playing hard to get while trying to fuck a guy that's literally 4 times her age
the whole context just seems weird to me. they are essentially trying to fuck an absolutely ancient grandpa stuck in a younger body.

broconfag

No

thanks

The tech side is the only weak part. If you watch a trailer you’ve kind of seen the worst it has to offer, especially because they don’t show the most impressive moments. Combat might look unappealing, but the fun comes from strategy

What abilities do you guys think the painters have in their "real" world? Can they bring their paintings into the real world? They must do more than just make their little copechambers

They're basically VR devs.

I can't believe he actually made the kneel meme real at the end of his fight.

She'll still be a mess, but she'll have to face reality. At this point she's just delaying her reckoning.

zoomers don’t know what a masculine 23 year old looks like

Rule's don't apply to Sigmas.

He's French! He probably smokes, drinks and fucks like a rock star, which is why he looks twice his age.

If people think painted niggas are real then how do they justify Maelle ending? She straight up enslaved the world.

I mean, it's worth noting that Verso was created by his Mom to be the coolest, goodest version of her son.
If even the most idealized, morally upright version of her son is going "This is fucked, I need to get my sister and my mom out of the painting before it kills them" he's got right firmly on his side.
It's like if even your imaginary friends were telling you to get a hold of yourself.

so what's the theory on the accident in the real world?
alicia never hung out with verso or clea in their canvases, instead spending all her time reading and writing. did she want to join the writers and seeing as she was of the dessendre family, took it as an opportunity to fuck them over?

2 weeks into maelle ending

If verso wouldn't suffer then the Maelle ending would be okay. Keeping his spirit alive is kind of the whole point of staying, but it would be to his detriment. Otherwise, it would be like keeping an aquarium, and the other natives to the canvas seem to be okay with it and accepted that their world is fake instantly

Alicia was probably catfished. Remember, she's a teenaged girl. She likely invited some of her totally cool and totally-not-writer friends over, and they tried to kill the entire family, because she's an emotional French girl who probably has no idea what an obvious trap is.

alicia never hung out with verso or clea in their canvases

I think Alicia was 10+ years younger than Verso and Verso wasn't that old when he was canvas diving.

Tell me about Clea.

Muh real vs fake

To me the Dessendre aren't real either, they are vidya characters. So what makes their lives and feelings worth more than people inside the painting?

Verso never seemed to get TOO into canvas-diving, too. His version of the canvas seems to be entirely whimsy, I don't think there were actually any humans inside.
All his creations don't seem to get affected by the Gommage.

why can't we just get this game except with all the gay fantasy world inception shit removed

she wouldnt let me suck her toes no matter how much i asked

They're one layer more real than the ones in the painting.

I kind of agree even though I liked the story lol

A big part of me was like damn I wish this was just a normal jrpg story but this with gameplay.

That's what they want you to think. They are actually the story within a story invented by an evil wr*ter who wants to trick Verso into destroying the actual universe.

Who the fuck wants to read a book about someone reading a book?

because then it wouldn't be the same game, it's a game about family, grief, idealism, expectations, and regret. if there was no painting it would get called a souls inspired grimslop game

Logging on and off to your virtual reality will eventually convinces you that it is all fake.

What's wrong with that, each FF game has its own world, why can't this just be a normal fantasy game.
I want this but you stay in act 1 for the whole game.

cool design

What's wrong with that

because that's not the point of the game, I just said, istg the ONE TIME we get a great game with an inspired, unique story and fags will get uppity about it not being tropey repetitive emotionally manipulative japshit

I missed if painted Verso gommaged with the rest. If he did, who replaced him?

man commits genocide

h-he did nothing wrong!

don't ever change

He was sitting on a pier, reading Alicia's letter.

It's still emotionally manipulative though.

husband tells wife to put her dolls away

literally hitler

He didn't get gommaged. Aline gave him a "gift", which is immunity to the gommage and eternal life.

anon, I'm just saying that it's physically impossible for one man to gommage the painted people without leaving any traces so fast

a story invented by an evil wr*ter

This is actually a cool twist.
Verso's death and the fire and all the crazy shit that happened later were actually an illusion all along written a writer/a group of writers to trick the Dessendre, in order to destroy the painter council.
While in reality they were all alive and were captured by the writers.

Just so we're on the same page, emotional manipulation to be in storytelling is forcing the viewer to evoke an emotion by adding details that don't contribute to the story in a meaningful way, whether it works or not, like making a character a previous rape victim or one becoming the town bike. This kind of thing never happens in clair obscur

Oh ok. I was starting to wonder if the soul within the painting was more than the little boy

So essentially, the story is about a writer making a falseflagging shitpost about painters? it's like your family crumbling about a basedjak

He says he's not going to after his boss fight in act three.

Only after he lost and is about to be ejected from the painting, and before he does his brilliant pis-aller of showing Retardo his coughing mother in an attempt to goad him into ending the canvas (even though that implies she left of her own volition right after reentering.)

Murderer

He erased Aline's creations

she deserved better
she just wanted a good life with her painted family and to write cringeworthy teenage poetry

Also square flowers and some invisible roofs/windows.

There no dragon pissing in front of a woman as a joke

then it wouldn't be the same game

Yeah, it would be better

she would criticize your sperm count, she's that much of a bitchy nerd

not yet wait for the sequel/prequel
esquie does vomit wine however

real renoir is both

curator transforming into true renoir is only because maelle gives him the 2 axons essences to craft the sword to pierce paintress's barrier. i think at that moment it untraps him and gives him full power (hes still much more weaker than aline's painted renoir).

I'm still confused about who the writers were and why the fire started, and what the war between the painters and writers was about
does anyone know please?

ex33.png - 1104x1304, 2.12M

watching your entire family die before your eyes for the second time

can't blame him for having a meltdown really

It's intentionally kept vague.
Probably sequel fodder.

Why was Renoir only able to mass kill people once every year and why was it always people of the same age? Was any of this even explained?

ah okay

Renoir could have thanos snapped everyone like he did after the expedition killed the paintress.
The paintress was containing his power level but he was stronger, hence why he could only erase people once every year.

then why would aline keep the painted alicia as her fucked up melty face version and then make her wear a mask, if she wants her painted family to be their best versions? that's insanely fuck up.

It's not relevant. Not every piece of world building will lead somewhere. It doesn't even matter why the writers and the painters are at odds, just that they are, and they used Alicia to fire bomb the manor, killing Verso.

would of

I like how Aline doesn't give a fuck about Lumerians, but paints a pointless warning they are going to die. This shit makes no sense.

All of your niggers are too retarded to live.

Aline blames Alicia for the fire that killed Verso.

Aline doesn't give a fuck about Lumerians

she literally painted them to create a faux life in honor of verso. renoir gommages them to remove her grasp of the chroma and make her stop huffing copium

It doesn't make sense

It doesn't. She's also losing her mind now, but previously she apparently wasn't, so she could have tried wirtting messages that could potentially help her in her struggle against Renoir, and the people of Lumiere could/would have helped her if she convinced them she wasn't the one to blame for the gommage.

That doesn't mean she cares about them. They are background npcs in her game.

who

examine the room to the left inside alicia's room

why it started

clea is a jealous cunt

painters v writers

its not as broad as they make it out to be

That faux life is long gone, and now her minion (pRenoir) slaugther Lumierians without remorse. They're energy sources.

it is ultimately not relevant to the conflict of the game

watching your entire family die before your eyes for the second time

But Verso is the one responsible for his sister committing suicide.

I'm under the impression that painters/wriggers are some sort of secret society, Harry Potter style. There's more of them out there but normies like us are still the overwhelming majority. Dunno if they can exert their magic outside of their medium into the real world but i sort of believe they could, to some extent
Why the feud started i still unknown though. Next game or whatever installment would probably shed more light to the RL stuff

even normies are starting to realize the story sucks

It's over.

maybe you can find a third way where everyone can be happy :)

poor PAlicia, she had no idea she was dealing with PainterNIGGERS and happiness isn't possible with them around

Writers are only 13% of the population and commit 52% of the crime

alicia was made for BWC (big writers cock)

He had the right idea
He just went about it in an insensitive way with the best intentions

painting people aren't real because a painter created them

By that logic it's okay to murder real people because God created them.

If I was witnessing people being brought back to life with a hand wave from some chick with white hair, I don't think murder should be a crime at all.

I sympathize with Painted Renoir but lament that he didn't at least try to lead the Expedition against the real threat instead of slaughtering them en masse.

I think it's implied that he and Verso already attempted that once and nearly got drawn and quartered for it, but I still wish he had kept trying.

Deserved a better life and a better brother.

It is not implied, it's told directly. Verso was captured and tortured by Julie and her friends. Julie also happened to be his lover

I guess there was always a chance that the Paintress would win in her war, but giving that her power was waning I think he was just helping hold off the end for her and his painted family.

The mole is hiding in this painting woods!

how did she pull it off on her first try?

JSY.png - 1716x1972, 2.12M

Yeah, I found that journal but couldn't remember whether or not Painted Renoir was involved for that part.

desire nothing but a good outcome for everyone, including the perfect idealized clone of yourself that your brother replaced you with, despite your entire existence being suffering

your dream hinges on Verso being honest and the aforementioned clone not being a selfish cunt

I would have ended it all too.

Painted Renoir was the one to tell Verso he had to kill Julie, that he could be one of Clea's creations.

she* could have been one of Clea's creations

Many amazingly talented people are stuck in the wagie rat race and are afraid to quit. A guy in my office is a mad good guitar player and composer but he wages in a 9-5 anyways because it gives stability

that he could be one of Clea's creations

Implying what?

Verso was captured and tortured by Julie and her friends. Julie also happened to be his lover

I'm pretty sure it was Painted Alicia that was captured and tortured, or was that in another journal?

Ah, implying that Julie was a potential spy

The nevrons don't question why they do what they do, they just do
Cleas creations are dangerous automatons

Painted Renoir outright told them its not the Paintress that gommaging them, but they call him a faggot.

I wish she could have stuck around, considering that she had just made peace with someone that could change the world for the better, and maybe even bring back those she lost.

But I guess she also could have just accepted that Verso was going to fuck things up again no matter what.

Heh, it's not really a complicated story, is it? The art direction and OST is what really sells this game.

Clea is on the side of Renoir, thus against the Painted Family and Aline. Since Clea can paint over other's people creations, she could plant secret agents among the expeditions, so they always work against the painted family and against Aline, and never against Renoir.

This paranoia makes the painted family, who once helped Lumiere and joined expeditions, to start antagonizing them.

It's because the story is simple it's easy to follow
Is that so bad

Julie's journal has her claiming that she saw Verso's torso being blown apart, and she names two other dudes who will help her capture and torture Verso.
Then, Verso's journal says:

"Why? Why couldn't you just let it go? Why you had to...capture me...interorgate me....torture me?"

She tortured Verso.

No, I just don't think it's so great either. It's still a job well done though.

Verso just had to trust his sister one time. One time and he wasn't able to do it.

Yeah a good plot and writing can only do so much for a game
The OST, art direction, and gameplay have to all come together, which they did

Yes, but in another expedition, it talks about how they caught a creature that looked like a small human who was watching them, but it must have been a trick and it's actually a nevron, it doesn't talk but "I will make it talk".
Not only could Painted Alicia just stop time and leave, or just kill them all easily, she never had any ill will against those people either.
Absolute fucking saint.

She's not a sentimental person
And think of her axon
The one who holds the world up on her shoulders
She doesn't have time for sentimentality

Dumb ESL.

Sexual frustration. Seen it often before.

Can't even send Francois a postcard.

had alicia requested help from maelle instead of taking the MAID route, she could have been painted into a unique, different form of herself after finding peace like alice and key in BA

even normies are starting to realize the story sucks

It's over.

I have been observing the E33 reddit for a while, and the trickle of "I am disappointed by the ending" posts has increased massively, probably as people finish the game.
Entire essays of how the game awkwardly tries to hamfist a message about grief in the most awkward way possible, and presenting the assymetrical and desperate struggle for survival of Lumiere as an afterthought, prodding you to empathize with Verso only even though he killed the only chance for a good ending due to his lies, nobody calling out the Dessendres for being irresponsible monsters, especially Lune, and in general Lune and Sciel being pushed to the side entirely, nobody else matters except the two niggers.

Punished Alicia didn't want to live for herself, she wanted to live for her family and for everyone else to survive.
Her family was dead, Verso doubly so. She had nothing to live for.

Sciel is a gypsy and Lune is a hapa, only white people have souls

Maelle could have been her twin sister and they could have commiserated over having the same bitchy mother.

24500145.png - 1759x980, 2.79M

I suspect due to the nature of creating alternate worlds with massively reduced real time, you could speed run ideas, scenarios, experiences, and technologies with ease

No, the story is SSSS++++ tier.
Its fucking amazing and exceptionally well done.

The reason why it's doing so good is because the story has such a simple premise that everyone can instantly grasp without it being overly bloated or convoluted.

big giant monster writes number on tablet and is causing human extinction let's kick its ass

Reminds me why games like gears of war was so intensely popular when it came out, because again it had a simple fucking premise and was cool as fuck.

Jrpgs tend to have a huge issue when it comes to having no real concrete premise, it has no hook the story is all uninteresting convoluted messes.

They stab writers in the eye with their paintbrushes

big giant monster writes number on tablet and is causing human extinction let's kick its ass

Except that premise is dropped halfway through and replaced with extremely morally awkward family drama.

If you're disappointed by the ending then you were either looking for

Something cliche

Or

Golden ending

Which historically is a DLC thing in any jap game
All that said why things suck

When you meet sciel she's already consigned to gommage

And she ends like this so it's kind of lame that all she does is explore her grief, but never gets to overcome it

Lune

Probably has the strongest case for being dealt the dirtiest hand by the plot

I think it's S+++++ tier too, but I think the divide lies in this:

Moving over that initial premise and realizing that there's deeper mysteries

or

Obsessing over the initial premise and feeling like the game didn't deliver a proper conclusion

I don't think the second camp could be happy with anything but

And then Gustave and Maelle plant the 33 flag on that peak as the Monolith collapses. The end

But that would make a fucking boring story and ending, even if the journey to get there could have been great

Which is great, because at that point you're already hooked and then the premise expands massively and it becomes something bigger and better.

Again, it's well crafted, have a simple premise a simple objective, make it clear WE are the good guys off to fight an obviously bad monstrous creature.
And then expand the premise massively and turn it into a family drama which again is a good choice and everyone loves.

Nothing about politics, nothing about the power of friendship, nothing about how X or Y is evil.
Nothing about now comes GOD OF CHAOS INCARNATION OF ALL THAT IS EVIL TO DESTROY YOU.
Its simply amazing how well done it all is.

I don't necessarily care about the premise
You could argue acts 2 and 3 are grounds for a game and it's sequel
It's your party members and the characters that were done dirty

Lune never got to address her upbringing

Who gives a fuck about the journal and the apprentices

Sophie looks around puzzled and then gets gommage'd

Like what the fuck

I wonder what the one-to-one is on how fast time moves in the painting?

I assume there isn't a concrete answer cause it's all wacky magic stuff, but I wonder if Maelle living sixteen years in the canvas was like her going into a coma for a few weeks, or if she was just gone for like the afternoon.

It really is not. Am I going crazy here or are you all really young? Are you so emotional that you got swept from a tearjerker study on grief? Is your favorite book Wuthering Heights or something? The story might not be dogshit but it's really simple stuff that has been done dozen of times before. The only real great thing it does (after awkwardly stumbling along its path) is asking you if can put Verso to rest. That's pretty good. The rest is meh to okay.

Sophie

I meant gustave's sister
She looks way too much like sophie

I don't think finding some sort of middle ground that allows Maelle to deal with her grief without killing the entire canvas would have been cliche.

give me an example of an S++++ tier story that's too much for young peoples' minds then

Are you young and so emotional?

I'm old and jaded and don't get teary eyes since 2019 playing a video game.

expand

It shrinks you mean. In what world does a journey through a post-apocalyptic world in a struggle for survival EXPANDS into a family quarrel? It shrinks. I think you just prefer sappy dramas and was lucky enough that's what happened here.

The Book of The New Sun.

How awkward it must've been for his first encounter with Aline in Lumiere.

Wife been stuck inside painting for a while now

pop in to see if everything's okay

find her making out with a painted version of you

I do though, would be the conventional JRPG slop the protagonist solves everything through friendship shit and everyone is happy and deep emotional scars are instantly solved.

because at that point you're already hooked and then the premise expands massively and it becomes something bigger and better.

It isn't. It could have been but it is not. The way Act 3 is presented, it's the game clowning on your ass if you cared about anything in the first 20 hours.

I'm reading shadow of the torturer right now. It's complex and esoteric in its imagery sure, but is a coming-of-age story really so much more mature?

The middle ground is cliche
It's the golden route
And that's fine and I wouldn't mind a DLC, literally call it new game 0 or some shit, and frame it like XCOM2WOTC
But it is cliche, not that there's anything wrong with that
But you can't argue x33 was cliche

No one would prefer the 2nd option, the premise is too simple and needs to be expanded.
It's too straightforward, it makes for an AMAZING hook but it doesn't work as an actual story.

Contrarians would say they didnt like it but its obviously bullshit.
Simple premises are made for the sole purpose to be expanded and inserting depth.

Did you guys unlock that secret cutscene in post game where Renoir retreats into his study alone and goes into his painting where all the the female expedtioners exist as his personal harem/sex slaves. I feel like that was a bit much but it also represented his ability to move on from grief quickly unlike his bitch wife.

Ah so the proverbial tony soprano on his way to helping ange bonpensirro, then smashing ange's car

Act 2 ends

New character: fucking hell that simulation is taking too long!

IMG_4447.jpg - 480x640, 16.43K

Continue. It's not a coming of age story at all. It's not even really an adventure either.

Nah. The statistical likelihood of Gustave's parents coming together to have him decreases the more living people Lumiere has. The fracture and subsequent Gommage increased the likelihood of Gustave being born.

But it wouldn't have solved everything. Maelle would have had to have gone home to do her best making a life in her crippled state with her shitty real family and say goodbye to her found family in the canvas and finally mourn her dead brother.

Meanwhile in Lumiere you could have written an outcome that undid Renoire's purge, but without a dedicated painter living there and fixing everything they'd have to move forward without everyone they'd lost prior, like Sciel's husband. Not a world without grief or loss, but a world that actually has a chance at a future after all that the expeditions had sacrificed to give them one.

720485.png - 1568x864, 1.77M

There's a recording that just says they were simply better than the gommage wall and bypassed it with a skill check.

Also one of them almost swam the entire way back to lumaire to tell everyone but he gommaged on the way

conventional JRPG slop

It really isn't that much of a demand for Verso to stop lying for one microsecond in his whole life and actually discuss about their positions.

and everyone is happy and deep emotional scars are instantly solved.

No, that takes time. But having to nuke a planet to start it because everyone is too retarded to live doesn't make the alternative cliche.

No one would prefer the 2nd option, the premise is too simple and needs to be expanded.

I agree, but I see people complaining that's all they cared about. I think they just don't know what they really want. I know it sounds dismissive, but I remember the discourse around Unicorn Overlord, and people were fucking pissed that the story never becomes something more.
You left on a journey to visit places to acquire allies, you acquire said allies, defeat the Empire along the way, get the mcguffin and liberate your country. The end.
Straight foward, nothing terrible, but easily forgetable and no praise at all for it's story. Just focusing on the expedition and Paintress would be the same thing, I believe.

she's just in dire need for a good dicking

its really simple stuff

This is a good thing retard and why it works so well and why it's so impactful.

It doesnt overcomplicate things, it doesnt toss a philosophy book at you, it gives you a very simple premise and it gives you a very simple family drama(escapism and addiction) and bloats it to epic proportions.

A simple story will always be the most impactful and its obvious you dont understand shit and you're nowhere near as intelligent as you think you are.

It really isn't that much of a demand for Verso to stop lying for one microsecond in his whole life and actually discuss about their positions.

The most interesting thing about Act II is Verso's lies. Verso being a goody two shoes would make the game significantly worse. And I fucking hated Verso until the end of Act III, this has nothing to do with wanting muh deep brooding MC.

But having to nuke a planet to start it because everyone is too retarded to live doesn't make the alternative cliche.

Nuking the planet is what makes it cool tho. Ass pull saves for everyone are everywhere.

I wanted to pour a glass out for Expedition 69 making it as far as they did. I feel like we wouldn't have gotten past the first area without them mountaineering everywhere.

You're thinking about it wrong. Not even La Horde du Contrevent is really about finishing the expedition either.

Is the writer an Attack on Titan fan?

Princesspost first post. Fuck forced drama faggots.

It's not dropped halfway through, it is completed. You do go to the ends of the world, have an epic showdown with the paintress and emerge victorious.
Also the end of act 2 is arguably at the very end of the story if you do it in the proper order (go beat renoir right at the start of act 3 and do the side content after)
All it did was give further context and an emotionally rich, thought-provoking explanation for the world and its rules
The entire thing is foreshadowed from the first minutes of the game and is constantly getting built up on until the big reveal, it's the furthest thing from an asspull, but rather a very competently executed twist where you can look back on every event preceding it and go "ahhh, that makes a lot of sense"

It sucks that even tho this game was good Death Stranding 2 will win GOTY.

Almost

He did swim back
He made it and was gommage'd at the very pier of lumiere

*best

I thought the general reception to Death Stranding was pretty lukewarm outside of those who will always praise Kojima.

She's the only one in the family that takes the arts seriously.
Think about it. Look at the rooms of the kids that you know to be their rooms. Look at their parents.

Both Aline and Renoir are painters

Verso paints, but has a piano in his room. His parable is "he who guards truth with lies" to let you know that despite the stuff in his room his real passion is trains.

Alicia has paintings in her room too but also a lot of books and a typewriter. Her story indicates that she has an interest in/fasciation with the writers, to the point where they used her to set the manor on fire.

Clea's room has paintings to show interest as a paintress. It has nevron sculptures to show an interest in sculpting, a desk with parchment to show an interest in writing, and a harp smack in the middle to show an interest in music.

If the arts were a language, Verso and Alicia were the equivalent of being bilingual while Clea is a polyglot.

The power ratings of my characters shifted a lot over the course of the game.

Maelle > everyone by an insane scaling margin. She's pretty much capable of soloing all my endgame bosses before they get a turn.

I just hit a boss for 2.5m with her gradient 3. I haven't seen the attacks of any of the last few bosses i've fought ):

I don't even remember this character at all.
didn't he die off screen an hour in the game? The fuck do you mean the dad is like Renoir?
God ffxv is so bad and it has everything needed to not be. Pissed me off so much. Fuck square.

They made the one character who advocated for a better way kill herself in despair. They're not adding anything, they want their suffering porn.

You're shielding yourself in the simplicity of your tastes. It's cute. There's definitely value in these kind of stories but you're the one insisting it's something fantastic and worthy of high praise. It's not; it never proposes to go beyond a study on grief. Hell it barely touches the philosophical aspect of the life in the canvas that anons here love to discuss. It's like you're telling me here that Frozen is one of the best stories in the world because it talks about familial love and many people were able to relate to that.

Death Stranding is the only other contender for me this year. We'll see how hard Kojima hit the crack pipe.

this nigga doesn't need a cane why does he have one?

They have such a somber journal too

Understood they would not be the ones to stop the gommage

Understood their work was pure ground laying

Died content and at the foot of a nevron

Aura farming

Yes, according to his reddit account

79262.png - 1142x512, 94.66K

She literally does
what are you even talking about lol
Renoir is nuking lumiere and she is protecting them while fake Renoir stops the "misguided" coming go kill the Paintress, in an effort to protect them

I kinda regret picking Maelle’s ending hearing they move forward together in Verso’s ending but I don’t believe they should have to destroy the canvas to do that if Aline and Renoir could just chill the fuck out a bit

Aura

it ain't easy

Real renoir probably does, and that's who he's based on

Boo hoo for the lying traitor

do I kill the white nevorns? any benefit to doing so?

Hell it barely touches the philosophical aspect of the life in the canvas that anons here love to discuss.

That discussion is boring and never goes anywhere desu, it's just shitflinging and barely touch things particular to this game

Gradient 3

Soloing bosses before they get a turn

I'm being wilfully obtuse in linking your two statements but a case can be made for monoco and lune

Who is Renoir's design based on? I swear I've seen him before.

I just think it's a very outspoken minority who are more shitposters than anything.
No one looks at the Yakuza games and think to themselves "wow I sure dislike all these twists and turns just show me the actual villain and let me beat them up!!!"

Seeing a story slowly adding layers and layers of depth and complexity is simply something everyone likes.
It's just not a serious complaint, it's pure nonsense.

Well-built Lune easily keeps up with Maelle though. Just combos like Typhoon with "on heal" effects like energise and rush are incredible. She's great at fighting bosses such as Sprong in act 2 because thunderstorm adds extra hits to every attack and in act 3 she can throw infinitely scaling fireballs that ramp up to millions in damage really quickly.

hot

Protecting her energy
Doesn't really give a fuck about them as people

Which is great,

50 cents deposited to your paypal saar

Yes, it's stupid. The game doesn't care about it, but people here tend to get automatically stuck on these nerdy details.

Why do you people act like the paintress is halfway through? Disingenuous faggot. The paintress wraps up literally an hour before the ending. There is ONE MISSION LEFT of the game after she dies and you get the culmination of all of the twists. Then you return, run through Lumiere and kill Renoir. And it ends.
Yes there is just as much now open side content as the rest of the game combined. That is still a disingenuous fucking argument. The game is DONE when the paintress dies, outside of an epilogue final conflict with Renoir. The family drama is LITERALLY THE EPILOGUE
EPILOGUE ALICIA

I kill bosses without gradients mostly, but for gradient 3 i set sciel up with an autodeath build that instantly breaks enemies before they get a turn, and maelle consistently kills bosses before they ever get to play. If i want i can also stack about 50% of a gradient bar per attacking character and get G3 before a boss has a turn anyway.

Lune was keeping up with maelle until act 3, then it was pretty much over. She's absolutely broken. She deals about 30-50x more damage than my heavily invested Lune

Literally so he can make the cane stomp sound so everyone knows they're about to get fucked up

There is a quest line for sparing all the white nevrons. No idea what you get because I didn't finish it.

Do they ever explain what happens if a painting is destroyed while a painter is in it? Do they die?

people not realizing it feels like the dissendre exposition takes up most of the runtime, because it's the part of the story that has impact and substance

everything before is bing bing wahoo esquie

Protects the misguided

By killing them mercilessly...

You can't add layers and complexity without thought and expect it to turn out good. That's not how it works. While complex can be good, complex is not automatically good. In the case of E33, adding the layer of the canvas of the story actually removed complexity. It's no coincidence that characters like Lune and Sciel seem to disappear from the story after that.

He wasn't walking with a cane in the epilogue, and he was hugging Aline just fine in the epilogue. When you control Alicia, she says that he's repairing the house. I don't think a person who needs a cane to walk could do construction.

if a painting is destroyed while a painter is in it? Do they die?

Probably, otherwise Clea would have done it already.

No love for Expedition 70? They laid down the grapple points for everyone else inside the monolith. And unlike expedition 69, they had to do it with outdated handholds, which according to 69's journal are harder to place and less nicer to use.

Lune and Sciel had disappeared before the canvas plot point. They show up each for one embarassing cutscene to finish bosses they have little to do with, and then they show up in cutscenes looking serious(Lune) or touching Verso like she wants to fuck him (Sciel)

Time for the greatest expedition in history

montage cutscene

What a pile of shit. I'd rather no Act 3 at all. Left a sour taste after the first 2 acts. It's obvious reacher and flying manor were meant to be part of the main story but they ran out of time or something
Yout get 100 lumina

How did they even get in there?

Scratch that, how did they make it all the way in there and then just job to some rando nevrons?

I like it because I have an intense hatred for final stretches.

Hate me all you want, so long as you're alive to do it!

Yeah, he definitely only wanted to protect Alicia, you sure paid attention anon, well done...?

You love eating shit

And then Painted Alicia who deserved to live more than her cop;y woke up in a peaceful world, and she had her father and non-retard mom and brother and she could talk and have a happy life writing slam poetry and reading philosophy and painting huge vaginas and eating ice cream

2581832_0_lg.jpg - 1000x562, 30.85K

Scratch that, how did they make it all the way in there and then just job to some rando nevrons?

This is all just headcanon but to me their journal reads as though they were purely traversal specialists, since they take pride in affixing the last of their grapple points because it took "painstaking focus and skill".

Do where did the expeditioners come from originally? Were they something Verso painted? Who created Lune, Sciel and Gustave? Do you think they're based on real people or are the painters out here low key making OC's donut steal?

I think it could be just one day but no more than three, since Alicia goes in when both parents are dead locked. With her experiencing sixteen years would mean the counter is at 49. When she is brought by Clea to deal with the dead lock which starts at 100, it would mean 61 years that past cant be more than an overnight thing.

I saw where it was going and was so scared they were going to have you go through the map to recruit every single pile of dead expeditioner. I was about to drop the game but damn was I relieved. Like the game but the monolith part was a slog, who wants to fight a bunch of enemies and areas you've already seen for the final hurrah?

I Wrote that btw

unironically I cannot let go of this, my ocd is too powerful

It's not the amount of burns that I'm talking about, but rather synergy for burn affinity and other things thatr exploit burns
If you want to apply the most burns in the game that honour goes to combo attack verso

You dont understand the difference between a story and a philosophy book.
It's not attempting to explain or explore, it's not trying to bog itself down by having its writers trying to show off they just passed philosophy 101 and have so many cool and philosophical ideals.
You are the perfect example of the reasoning behind jrpgs are currently so awful, because they bog themselves down trying to be overly complex and philosophical they lose sight of the original premise and the agency the player has to caring about the fucking story.

You're a dipshit, and the fact the game writers showed self restraint and limited themselves heavily allowing players to actively discuss the philosophy in its place shows an absolute achievement on their part.
Sowing the seeds of philosophical engagement and not hamfisting it to the player and hampering discussion.

It's been a long LONG time people actually debated about a games story.

That's the date Verso died. The monolith represents a tombstone. Next question.

Do where did the expeditioners come from originally?

Lumiere. The city and the people were all Aline's creation.

Do you think they're based on real people or are the painters out here low key making OC's donut steal?

We know from Verso that Aline can paint creatures based on real people. That said, if you put any stock on the "Gustave looks a lot like Renoir and Verso" that other people on the internet sometimes say, Aline could also be mixing up details of real life people she's met.

Lumiere was painted along the fake family, all people in it included, when Aline entered the canvas, after her son's death.
Lune, Sciel and Gustave were children of the offspring she originally painted. However, this does not remove her autorship: Remember that Maelle (someone that was just born "normally" inside the canvas world) is "one of Aline's creations". Every living person is one of Aline's creations.
Gestrals, Esquie and Grandis are Verso's (kid verso).
Nevrons and François are Clea's.
Axons are Renoir's.

I think it's just the map. They implied several times that they could turn back and give up.

You should have played my nigga Alan's game.

Expeditioners were from Old Lumiere after the fracture, which was when Renior invaded. Before that, the canvas was just Verso and Clea's wonderland, which they would play in and where they painted Esquie and Francoise. When Aline came in, she repainted Lumiere and her family. The people of Lumiere were technically her creations. That's why Esquire and Monoco were immortal and didn't get gommaged because they were Verso's creations.

Implying this stuff is 1:1 none of this makes sense 1:1

Passage of time is definitely different, and I think it's heavily implied from clea's comments that Alicia's insertion into the land world is unorthodox but interesting

Marketplace Obscure lol

Aline painted them, but she did so a long time ago and doesn't even seem to remember creating them. She even thinks they are Renoir's creations. She is also not actively painting them as time goes by, their lives have long since become their own.

their lives have long since become their own.

Tell that to the gommage.

There is no reason to suggest or believe that Maelle's situation is something you can extrapolate any meaningful implications from. It is entirely and utterly unique.

their lives have long since become their own.

That's contradicted by Clea calling Maelle "Aline's creation".

Maelle has a 5 hit combo that applies 5 burns per hit and scales damage with how many burns are on the target. It's generally absurd.

Renoir literally says he's deleting her oldest creations first. She paints all of them. She even painted over Alicia to make Maelle.

Yea, Renoir is a monster. The faceless characters even say so; She paints life, He paints death.

Lune and Sciel have the same objective they always had, which is to make sure the canvas lives.

They dont "disappear" you're just too ADHD prone that when new characters are included you somehow forget other characters also exist.
The game is not at fault for your mental deficiencies and it should not cater to you.

Seek meds.

You will leave as one of Aline's creations

Implies several. Implies many. Implies she's still creating. In the act of birth of every human, a touch of God (the Paintress) is present.

Maelle also oneshots everyone and trivializes the game.

They're good too, I was just impressed that the number I expected someone to make a sex joke out of were actually just MVPs.

pretty much, she's busted. Bosses with millions of HP that don't get a turn.

Passing on the burden of discussing its message to the readers (in this case the players) is the complete opposite of good storytelling, are you out of your mind? David Lynch used to get actively upset when people asked him to discuss his films. "The film is the talking!" He would say. If you don't say what you want in your story, you're completely deluded if you think it's somehow there to be discussed.
I think you're very young and have spent most of your time watching those anime you're posting. Which is laughable and a bit sad. You're coming to discuss good storytelling with the frame for comparison being literal cartoons for children. I'd be embarrassed if I were you.

See
And yes, they are still technically her creations. If I make a robot that builds other robots I am still technically the creator several generations later. If I magically make real people I'm still their creator generations later.

Again, Aline doesn't even recognise the people from Lumiere at all. She goes so far as to confuse her fake Verso for the real one initially.

"I love them too"

Let me exploit a zolllion burns for a alot of damage

Or just stehndahl with less setup

My problem with maelle is it's a choice between a ton of damage and a ton of damage

Of course vee loves Renoir
chud character "women crazy" eye roll

If I make a robot that builds other robots I am still technically the creator several generations later. If I magically make real people I'm still their creator generations later.

It's more than that. The pneuma of the setting is Chroma, the paint magic, and that paint force from all Lumierians is Aline's. Without that paint magic, they aren't animated, they aren't alive. The breath of life that enters every birthing creature is Aline's chroma, who Renoir is stealing through the gommage.

I think its pretty obvious quite a few expeditions were actually highly skilled and very capable.

It honestly makes even more sense as to why painted renoir shows up to kill you given how some expeditions are clearly powerhouses and not complete jobbers who instantly die.

My heroes...

Is she better than Verso's 13 hits attack that you can rank S cheat on turn 1?

Implies several.

Yes, she created the concept of Lumiere humans.

Implies many

Sure, but not in any meaningful way. This information isn't useful beyond knowing that Aline painted other things in her life.

Implies she's still creating.

Incorrect. This is the part where you're making real errors. There could be any number of factors at play here, including the much more likely "the Chroma under Aline has a life of its own and is affecting Maelle" since there is no reason or justification as to why Aline would knowingly and specifically repaint Alicia as a baby. If anything, it stands to reason that Aline painted the laws of the world, insofar as it applies to the Lumiere people, and Alicia is being subjected to them. The only real hint you can apply here is the fact that Alicia is remade as an infant, born into the world.

Women crazy tho

There is nothing to indicate that without Aline present the rules she established for the painting would cease to exist. Part of the whole point of painting as an artform is that it outlives its creator, we see this with Esquie and Monoco, even after Verso's death they remain. Amusingly Monoco is the only thing Aline really recognises.

cant be more than an overnight thing.

It could be. Alicia was worried about the time the both of them have spent in the canvas. If we're to operate on the premise of body requirements still going even when in canvas then you have the following health hazards to consider.

Sleep : 3 days without sleep is detrimental to your health, and while no hard limit has been researched (for obvious reason) fatal familial insomnia very much means that you can die from lack of sleep

Food : studies estimate that it's theoretically possible to live up to 2 months without food

Water : it's generally believed that the human body can survive 3 days to a week without water

Part of the whole point of painting as an artform is that it outlives its creator, we see this with Esquie and Monoco, even after Verso's death they remain

They don't remain when the soul of the artist decides to stop painting. At that point, the entire work of art vanishes in this game.
I understand what metaphor you were going for, but it's not what is present in the game. The artist leaves a piece of himself in his art, but this piece, in the game, has the power to stop and then everything disappears.

I could throw cheater on him and try i suppose,

I think most these characters get pretty broken later if you set them up right.

But Clea also tells her they have been in painted worlds for longer before. I don't think you can apply real-life physical needs to this, magic and all. Hell we can see magic is very real outside the Canvas right in Renoir's workshop with all the floating shit.

You should go to a church and stay in there.
No discussion, no active input on your part when it comes to your smooth brain, a person walks up to the stand tells you what to think what you should believe he hamfists his ideals to you and you nod like a sheep and happily accept what they say with no room of discourse.

It's not a wonder why misinformation is so prevalent nowadays, because people like you want to be told what to believe and cant be bothered to think for themselves, the same sort of people bitching there is no 3rd ending where everyone is happy because the active effort to make an actual choice where everyone doesnt win is beyond your capability.

You're not interested in partaking in philosophy you're only into mindlessly nodding like a midwit and going "DATS DEEP YO DAMMM".

They don't remain when the soul of the artist decides to stop painting. At that point, the entire work of art vanishes in this game.

Sure, but we don't know how that applies, broadly speaking, to the rest of the information we have. Verso might be an exception in this sense because he never wanted to be a painter. There is nothing to suggest Aline's soul reflection would want to ever stop painting. Even further, it's unclear it's even a requirement until she dies, and with how much time passes in the painted world versus the outside world they would have millennia before such an event would occur.

fucks your daughter

sets fire to your house

Damn I didn't know the writers were Algerian.

Yeah I know. But we're also treated to the fact that prolonged stays in the canvas (where we've seen that entering a canvas isn't done in your sleep but rather places you in a state of suspended animation) is detrimental to your health. Since we don't know that particular x-factor we can instead use real life concerns as a reference.

considering that she had just made peace with someone that could change the world for the better, and maybe even bring back those she lost.

She had made peace long before that, when she wrote the letter. She lost her last hope tethering her to life when Verso betrayed her the final time, watch her body language when she gets the letter back, it's very telling.
At this point Maelle was never going to bring her family back and everyone knew it.

She even thinks they are Renoir's creations.

When was this mentioned? I don't remember that line, but there is supporting evidence for it. Flower petal colors on death/gommage correspond to who controls the chroma. Red is Renoir, white is Aline, yellow is Alicia. Most (all?) gommage scenes that aren't Alicia's doing have red petals, since it's Renoir taking control of their chroma and erasing them. But in Verso's ending, when the characters gommage at Verso's grave, we see yellow for Maelle, white for Verso, and red for Lune, Sciel, and Gustave, implying Renoir painted the latter three.

By late-game any properly built character can trivialize the game. Maelle's brokenness is giving 9 shields to the whole party, damage comes second.

verso fucks his party members

LITERALLY sticks his cock into them

proceeds to delete them and everything they love while lying to their face that he fights for them

Name a single MC that is worse than Verso.

Oh yeah just tested it, maelle hits in two hits harder than his entire combo even at S rank, rip verso.

You mean better

When was this mentioned?

He's probably referring to Aline's ramblings in the Paintress fight.

Fug I guess I regret giving him all my post-game resources now

Ultimate post-nut clarity

There's other good builds for Verso. Have you tried his school shooter build?

He is certainly severely flawed

paintings owe me sex

proceeds to delete them and everything they love while lying to their face that he fights for them

We don't know this to be a fact.
We don't know what the fuck will happen to Lumiere and Lune now that Verso's soul stopped painting.
The only reason that Esquie, Monoco, and Sciel all gommaged is because they entered the null space where Alicia literally says it's dangerous for painted beings to be. The only reason painted Verso didn't vanish in there was because of Aline's immortality enchant.
Hell, we literally see Lune intact because she chooses not to enter the null space.
The big pervading fear was that with Alicia out the canvas Renoir will destroy it. That has fuck all to do with Verso no longer painting nor painted Verso wanting to suicide.

writer was an alienated genocideCHAD

She caused the accident and should live with the consequences

We don't know what the fuck will happen to Lumiere and Lune now that Verso's soul stopped painting.

It will probably cease to exist. Based on what we know, Painters need to put a piece of themselves in a canvas to animate it, so it'll just disappear without it.
That's why if you wanted a good ending you could do something like Maelle maturing and letting the shard of Verso pass on and replace it with her own, so her mom would no longer be attached to it but everyone could live

Don't change the subject, we're talking about telling a story here. Are you actually dumb enough to think it's comparable to having a philosophical discussion? Jesus, how fucking old are you? Let me make it very simple since you're thinking you're hotshit because this first encounter with metaphors and allegories is blowing your mind: a good story tells a story, it says what it wants to say and ends. It can say simple stuff like 'losing a loved one is hard and can push us into harmful habits like escapism' or it can talk about the nature of the human spirit and what's the value of life in a doomed existence. To people with an habit of reading it's easier to see which one is harder to write and more interesting overall. If you don't say anything and expect the reader to come up with philosophies and themes for your books expecting them to recognize it as a masterpiece when you didn't put in the work, you're dumb and dishonest. Go away and open a book, kid.

How about the Alicia who was born in even worse state through no fault of her own yet still wants to live?
Red Alicia needs to get a fucking grip.

I was severely disappointed that in his ending Sciel doesn't use her final moments to flip him off or punch him in the gut, realizing what he had done at the last moment.

As impossible as it would be, it makes more sense for Clea to be the replacement. By her own words she painted half the canvas

True, but Alicia maturing and taking that responsibility would thematically wrap up the story better.

It's true
It's one thing to overcome grief
It's another entirely to ascend from a backwards brooding individual to a forward looking, aspiring youth

When you realize you've been pumped and dumped.

It will probably cease to exist. Based on what we know, Painters need to put a piece of themselves in a canvas to animate it, so it'll just disappear without it.

I've seen anons here on e33 threads who believe that part of Verso's soul existing in the canvas to be a thing that's never happened before, which is fucking retarded if you ask me, but the fact that some anon thinks this way means we need some consensus of what we know.
Personally I'm more of the belief that the world in the painting just stops moving, as the soul is the spark that gives the world life, as opposed to ceasing to exist.
Ceasing to exist would mean all the chroma goes away, and the painting turning into an empty white canvas just because Verso stopped painting seriously strains my suspension of disbelief.

That's why if you wanted a good ending you could do something like Maelle maturing and letting the shard of Verso pass on and replace it with her own, so her mom would no longer be attached to it but everyone could live

They'd still be attached.
The reason Aline is obsessed is because it has Verso's soul literally and figuratively.
As a metaphor, it's the only painting he has.
To a family of painters that makes it even more sentimental.
Just because Alicia puts her soul into it doesn't change that Verso was the one that painted it.

every time you enter a painting, a piece of yourself is left inside

this is a literal statement spoken by noir. that spirit is a stronger, driving force because it's verso's canvas, not just because he spent his childhood there

reused assets like everything else.
are you going to use the painting of the devs as your next set of evidence?
"the game is... A GAME!"
no shit.
"b-but, CANONICALLY"
take your mental gymnastics routine to the special olympics.

a good story tells a story

Yes, a good story tells a story.
That is it, a good story.

It doesnt lecture you, it doesnt bog you down with philosophical ideas, it tells a story and it leaves the audience to find the meaning behind it all.
You're uncultured, you're uneducated and you're retarded.

It's like looking at a painting, the audience creates their own philosophy behind the painting their own meaning behind the painting, the canvas doesn't explain itself to the audience it is what it is and you are left to explain it yourself.

You are watching a story unfold, the story doesnt lecture you, it doesnt justify its philosophy, it tells you a story and you the audience are there to find your own meaning to it and deal with the uncomfortable nature of it which sparks debates.

That is true art, something like you wouldnt fucking know, child.

My lune gives my entire party shields by committing suicide, my Maelle's strongest suit is doing mind breaking amounts of damage.

file.png - 989x248, 137.97K

Yeah, but Verso is still the one that painted the portrait. Aline dropped Lumiere on top of it and drew train tracks all over the continent (that always run late) but everyone still acknowledges it as Verso's canvas 1) because he's the OG artist of the whole thing and 2) it has his soul.
Just because Alicia puts her soul in it doesn't alter the space time continuum to where she was the one that made the painting for a kid verso to play in.

Verso is unironically worse than most villains.
It's funny to see people call him good, dude is a legit scumbag.

I like seeing all the love PAlicia gets recently, I don't remember her being discussed much in the first few weeks.

painted renoir is a retard

People got tired of arguments and just want to hopemaxx.
Plus, she's cute.

consider that he's lived a century in pain and sorrow, and has seen countless people die knowing that they're paintings. scumbag, sure. but his ultimate feelings are understandable

Why?

He's a figment of a painting that he's watching his entire family tear themselves apart over, and he wants to kill himself rather than have them continue to fight over him.

It makes sense to me in a meta context. But sure i guess if you have no meta consciousness then it doesn't make sense why he's killing his friends.

cat5 (4).jpg - 1170x1170, 242.2K

He didn't beat his wife and daughter enough to not be retarded.

That is not art at all. That's self-fellating narcissism and arrogance from spectator. No artist ever sets out to create art so the spectator can give it whatever meaning they want. That's completely bollocks from the mind of immature children like you who think too highly of themselves. In your mind you think Tolkien wrote LotR so that retards like you can come in and say it's whatever idiocy comes up from their limited perspective in life. That's actually offensive. I'm actually disgusted I'm sharing this place with mouthbreathers like you.

teaching feeling mod when?

Painters project their minds into portraits, leaving their body behind

the body is completely oblivious to the outside world, like two women, one with respiratory issues, stealing a giant ass painting three feet in front of them

There is no way some writer or a wealthy patron didn't go and fuck a paintress bitch while they were astral projecting.

No artist ever sets out to create art so the spectator can give it whatever meaning they want.

Oh shit we have an english teacher in the thread who believes every artist gives intentional secret and guided meanings to the work they create which should only be interpreted in 1(one) single way and no other way is valid.

How do you think the family has so much fucking money they gild their walls?
Fully interactive immersive furry porn commissions.

Have you ever written or painted anything? Say the truth.

Clea lying down braless, definitely without panties as well

imagine

That's stuff going on inside the painting though. I'm talking about the paintress standing there, staring at a painting, not knowing she's getting railed.
That shit is basically time stop porn with extra steps.

Yes, three published books. I am sorry anon.

I wonder if all the people saying maelle ending is bad would refuse living their whole life in a canvas where it's just sexy women and you can fuck them whenever.

That is the point. Verso outright said that Alicia can do this and just paint in another canvas, but she specifically does not want to leave Verso's Canvas.

So it's not about escapism after all.
She doesn't need to confront her real life at all, she can go and disappear on another canvas and smoke fentanyl and get railed by BBCs as long as HE gets to die like he wants to.

As someone that's never even felt what living in an owned home feels like, yeah. There's just something unnerving about living a life that feels too good to be true.

There's no way they made Julie only to appear in Maelle's Nightmare for like a split second right?
They better be making E0 DLC at this very moment

Letter delivery third ending DLC in the works right now.
Meant to compete with the other letter delivery game, Death Stranding 2

it makes sense to lie, deceive, kill your friends, trick them, fuck them and then proceed to kill them and its all justified because...He wants to save someone

It reminds me of typical jrpg villains who want to doom the world to save their loved one and we have to stop them.

Isnt that the plot point of ff7 sephiroth.
Wants to doom the world because of his mothers wishes or some shit.

Hardly see how Verso is genuinely any different.

Hardly see how Verso is genuinely any different

He really isn't, he stopped the game's good ending early. Very French.

Who is this big dead avatar that's holding old lumaire?

Untitled-2.jpg - 1684x1275, 837.49K

That's beautiful and all but you don't actually make a movie by stringing random clips together. Nor do you write a book by chaining random words.

Then just let him die without taking the entire world down with him.

203485.gif - 500x281, 1021.51K

Hear me out:
the ending could have been more kino if Maelle's pre-epilogue life was more significant to her near the end. Like if she repainted gustave and had him and verso driving the main conflict.

Mandatory Picard for every E33 thread
youtu.be/ol2WP0hc0NY

That's not old Lumiere, that's just a french city that Renoir painted on its back. It's the axon that represents Clea.

the point is that it's impossible. if verso(real) dies, the painting dies. keeping verso alive is suffering for him, because he doesn't like to paint.

Sort of reminds me of when parents lose their child and they keep their child's bedroom completely untouched.
They have all of their kids toys still there, the bed is done, years go by and it just remains as their kids room even after long dead, making food for 3 at the dinner table although it's now a family of 2...etc

They had pretty much ran out of money by then.

GOTY edition soon

B-4 being stripped of his sentience to resurrect Data predates nu trek.

Does Nemesis count even if it's TNG related?

B-4 being stripped of his sentience

He didn't have a positronic brain though, should he count as sentient even when he's that mentally simple?

Everything after 2000 is nutrek, Enterprise included.

He did, it was just a crude one compared to Data and Lore's, that's why Data shared his memories, hoping that what Data learned would help b-4 not be so simple.
You're basically saying genocide is ok as long as you do it to the mentally retarded.

You're basically saying genocide is ok as long as you do it to the mentally retarded.

Hitleresque, holocaustly even.

is anybody else kinda disappointed Maelle's ending had her undergo such drastic regression? I thought she would learn from Aline and rise above, strike the balance, let Verso's souls rest and become the new painter of the world.

pls someone make me satisfied with the ending, I loved this game so much but the ending makes me empty.

That's why you pick Verso's ending.

maelle is too flawed to have things go her way in a good way

Older? He was only 26 and looked mid thirties at minimum.

why did they allow this?

I think Verso' ending would be almost perfect if we saw Maelle writing her own world. (or painting, depending on how you want to interpret her role with the writers thing). Miura died, but Berserk isn't over. She can have her own way to grieve, not forcing Verso's soul into sustaining the canvas.

she behaves like a 16yo girl so it's pretty fitting IMO

also how do I wake the sleeping gestral in the village? he's blocking an item

shoot the mirror in his room.

maelle

rise above

SHES A LITERAL FUCKING CRIPPLE
Holy shit, shes not jesus shes not some fucking saint.

She's someone who is as broken if not more than Aline and you're expecting her to "rise above".

She's lived a life unshackled from her grief

The only reason Verso wanted Verso’s soul to stop painting is because it’s the only way for him to die. In an ideal world where Aline and Renoir could be chill they’d have left the canvas be and the fragment of his soul would always be there
